Why I love dinner with the kids
Tonight Maddie used puppy dog eyes to get the pizza she wanted. DH ordered a pie of plain, a section of meatball (joseph) & eggplant (me). I turned to DH & said "All right! Daddy scores a home run with the pizza!"
Joseph looks at me like I have 10 heads & says "Mom, we are NOT playing baseball. We are eating dinner. There is no homerun!"
Maddie touches Joseph's arms & says in a very patient voice, "Joseph, Mommy was speaking Spanish. You don't understand it."
I said to Maddie, "I was speaking English. THat is just an expression - another way of saying Yeah Daddy ordered all of our favorites! He must love all of us."
She scowls & answers "Well he LOVES ME. *I* wanted pizza."

Later the conversation went to school. I asked Joseph about his report for the day. I said "Who were the two kids you weren't getting along with?"
He answered "What?! There weren't two kids. There was only one kid, JOSEPH D! My teacher didn't even know about BRIAN!"
I said "What about Brian? It said there were two kids you didn't want to play with?"
He answers "Mom, why are we even talking about Brian? She didn't even SEE what happened with him! Let's talk about something else. You need to stop always asking me about school. Mom, what happened with you at work today?"
I was soooo tempted to say "Nothing happened but I hit a kid name Brian at work."

so does Maddie realize how gifted she is that she speaks spanish at such a young age?
