DH tells me that I need to use the technical term "a schmeer". He swears they understand that more than just saying "a little bit".
I haven't had a bagel since I was preggo so I haven't tested his theory, maybe it can help you.

Because then they'll charge you for a bagel AND for a 1/4lb of cream cheese!!
I always end up taking off at least half of the cream cheese!! And if I ask for just a little bit, it's never enough!

I so hear ya...Same goes for me..but what I say is, GO light on the cream chesse and you know what I get,
LITE CREAM CHEESE!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem.........ALWAYS! So I always try and remember to ask for a plastic knife and then I take a ton of napkins so I can get rid of the access in the car.

I ALWAYS end up taking off 3/4 of the cream cheese or butter. I'm not sure why they pile it on like that.
ETA: And how about when it's not even spread on the bagel and just a huge chunk of cream cheese.

seriously! I ask for the same thing and it's definitely less but certainly not "just a little bit".If you don't ask for "just a little" though it's even worse!!

Ask for a plain bagel in addition to your bagel with cream cheese then when you scrape off the extra cream cheese you can put it on the plain bagel and have it later in the day. Can you tell I have a healthy appetite?

I always ask for it on the side, but I don't think I have ever been charged for it. Maybe next time I better check, with my luck, I have been getting charged extra all this time.

I know, I hate when they put some much on, I always have to wipe off half of it. Even if I tell them light on the cream cheese, they still load it on, so I don't bother.

Once in a while when I say "Could you please put about half the usual amount of cream cheese on?" they actually do it. Most of the time I end up asking for a knife and take most if it off before I eat it. Seems like such a waste of good cream cheese though.
