Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
I left 20 minutes early and was still late to work. People going 5mph and others going 70mph...can we find a happy medium so everyone is safe on the road without stupid accidents?

I almost just died and came an inch of being t-boned turning onto our street bc some woman came to a COMPLETE stop on Smithtown Ave almost causing a 5 car pileup and then drove the rest of the way at like 5 with her hazards on!

Re: Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
I am honestly more afraid of those going 70mph then 5mph. Usually you get the people driving big trucks and SUVs doing 70mph because they think since they have 4WD its like driving on a nice dry, sunny day. UGH. I sometimes drive really slow (maybe 20mph) because I have a car without 4WD and tends to skid.

ugh, I usually find that during snow & rain, people speed like maniacs but when it's nice & dry on the roads it's like people are sight seeing with how slow they drive.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh it's snowing! Oh no, I'm going to slide. Let me brake a million times & go 5 miles an hour in my SUV.
I missed my train because some idiot in a Land Rover was crawling.
I wish we could vote on revoking licenses.

Re: Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
I have no idea. It was 5mph the whole way into work also.
So rediculous!!!!!!!
A little snow......people panic. Its not like they've never drove in this before. Truly boggles my mind.
Oh and to top off all the chaos.........I catch a lady putting on her mascara. A recipe for disaster! Please.......don't even!

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have we NEVER had snow before? You would think there was a blizzard out right now the way people panic! And that is soo much more dangerous to panic in bad weather!

Re: Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
People just dont know how to drive in general. I love when they slam on the brakes which makes it worse for everyone and guess what... that's when you slide. There are also many idiots out there in SUV's and truck that think just because they have 4 wheel that they can drive however they want and those are always the ppl you see on the side of the road in a ditch b/c 4 wheel does nothing for you when the roads are icy. I am from Buffalo and consider myself to be a pretty good bad weather driver so I am easily irritated by ppl who cant drive in the snow. I drove east on the LIE this morn and the road was completely clear of snow and ice and ppl were still doing 50... Let's move it along, it's just a LITTLE snow.

Re: Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
actually it was really bad by me...all ice.
I have AWD and am usually fine in the snow and I was slipping and sliding all over the place.
Better to drive slow and arrive safely IMO.

I absolutely agree!!! But on the parkways......its a little bit of a different story b/c the roads were clear. Reduced speed is definitely a MUST but we are talking 5mph the whole way.
It was a little overboard. LOL

I have had numerous close calls when driving in this weather...I live far East (almost Riverhead) where the roads are notoriously treacherous. I find the people drive better out by me, maybe because we're used to it. It's like people just forget how to drive safely/properly in this weather, which is way more unsafe. Driving slower is no more safer than driving fast, especially when LI is infamous for having bad drivers without bad weather!

Re: Why is it that in this weather, people forget how to drive?
I drove DD to school this morning, I started out my usual speed thinking "it's just a little snow" or barely any snow , but my car started skidding a lot , so I slowed down a bit (actually a lot ) I'd rather be safe than sorry, I don't really care if a person behind me is PO bc I'm too slow, especially when I have my DD in the car.

ITA! I would rather drive slow knowing that I am safer this way then to go fast just to please the driver behind me and end up in an awful accident.

People don't need to take it soooo personally! Give me a break! There were generally people driving ridiculously slow which could cause accidents, and people driving ridiculously fast which could cause accidents. Period.

this is what happened today, the rest of traffic was traveling at a reasonable speed for road conditions, the driver panicked, slowed to almost 0 then came to a complete stop, on slippery roads, where the rest of the traffic was moving at around 30, causing people to slam on their brakes, swerve to avoid one another, and skid on the slippery roads. That was FAR more dangerous this morning.

The southern state was NOT fun at 6:30am! I thought the highways would be much better considering the snow wasn't even that bad!

Wow, what was that all about. Yes, I was just agreeing with you. I dont know why she took it so personally. I mean sure, you can cause accidents going really slow or really fast but I think an accident is more likely to happen (and be more dangerous) from drivers that are going too fast rather than too slow...
