Why is my 17 mos old taking forever to fall asleep?!
DD used to go down by 8:00-8:15. Lately she plays in her crib for 40-50 min and isn't falling asleep till 9 or sometimes later. She then sleeps till 7-8am, sometimes later. She naps once a day from 1-3, sometimes shorter or a tad longer. I try to get her down in her crib by 12-12:30 for her nap but again she just plays in there, stands up, rolls around, laughs etc and takes 30 min to fall asleep. We have a bedtime routine and nap routine that's quiet and soothing but doesn't seem to do much lol. She's happy in there (in her crib) so gonna stick with it and keep bedtime the same. I just hope this 9pm bedtime doesn't turn to 9:30 or later or to dropping a nap early. And selfishly I need her in bed by 8!
Also on a side note she doesn't walk yet but crawls and knee walks everywhere and is constantly moving, busy and playing during the day. She never yawns or looks tired!

As long as she is happy and not yelling, that's great imo! Must be how she winds self down.

Why is my 17 mos old taking forever to fall asleep?!
My 16 mos DS goes in his crib between 745-8 every night and he isn't asleep until at least 820-830, sometimes later. But he's not crying, so I think it's fine. He just needs to wind down and settle himself. I can't fall asleep some nights for a long time, even if I'm completely wiped, and end up just laying in bed. It's just a thing I think we all do.

Re: Why is my 17 mos old taking forever to fall asleep?!
Oh i struggled with this and have been for over 2 years... my DD... gasp! loves to hang out in her bed (back in the day, crib) for awhile before going to sleep. It's a blessing! Enjoy it! She plays, talks to herself, now that she's 3.5 she "reads" books by flashlight and then passes out awhile later. We put her in bed at 8 and she goes to sleep at 8:45/9. She's happy, we're happy... though I do feel guilty sometimes!

My dd does that too sometimes... I am a firm believer in that she prob is working on learning something new that is keeping her mind active. As long as she's happy, I wouldn't worry! She needs "me time" as much as we do

Why is my 17 mos old taking forever to fall asleep?!
Did it just start this past week? Since we turned the clocks forward last weekend, my dd (also 17 months) has been staying up about an hour later than usual and sleeping an hour later than usual in the mornings.

I dont hear the issue either????
You didnt mention her crying in crib. If she is playing in crib when you put her in, so be it. At 17 months she is probably good with one nap. I am not sure what you meant by dropping a nap? Does she have more then one

DD is exactly the same. It actually started happening more for about a week before the time change and then of course turning the clocks forward hasn't helped. She used to sleep from 1-4 in the afternoon. Now I put her down at 1:30 and she doesn't usually fall asleep until at least 2. I end up waking her up at 4:30 from a dead sleep. Same for bedtime, put her down at 8:30 and she yapping away for an hour some nights. I just hope she's getting enough sleep and the other thing that bothers me is waiting around trying not to be too noisy while I wait for her to fall asleep at naptime. I'm hoping it's a phase and she gets back into a better schedule soon but at least she's happy in there!

I don't see an issue. People go to sleep all different ways so why not babies.
