Why wont my 2yr old eat?
Grrr- its so fustrating..
DS is slowly falling off the charts in weight-
He is 28 months and barely weighs 26lbs- The Dr is not worried- since he is always healthy and gaining something- but he would like to see more weight on him..
I explained that DS has good days and not so good days- There are days he'll eat anything that isn't bolted down- and others where I'm lucky if I get him to eat 2 mini pancakes and some goldfish crackers...
The Dr tells me not to worry and to keep doing what I'm doing- but he wants me to enforce DS staying at the dinner table even if he doesn't want to eat...
Can someone please tell me how this is possible??? He sits in a regular chair, so its not like he is restrained. I do not allow him to watch TV when he gets up, so its not like he is getting up to do something else.. He just simply doesn't want to eat. I get up and redirect him to the chair, but before I know it he is screaming and dinner is ruined for everyone...
Any suggestions??
(We have used bribery- such as reading a special book after dinner, or getting a special treat as well)

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
I'm in the same boat. (and my daughters way less then RJ) There are days when they are eating everything in sight. And then the next day barely anything.
Patrick was the same. I used to give him pediasure. That way I knew he was getting some nutrients. It's just a phase really they do grow out of it.

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
Same here....DD is 2 and weighs 26lbs and its a struggle to get her to eat.I make her smoothies with full fat milk and fruit and she likes those as long as she can drink them from a cup with no cover and a reg straw so I have to watch her otherwise its all over the floor but she does like them so its worth it. She does like hummus so I give her that a lot and its good for her.
Our ped isnt worried either so I guess they will survive

Does he have alot of fluid during the day? Can you limit that so he may want to eat more?

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
sounds all too familiar. Roman weighs 25 lbs. I too make him shakes with full fat yogurt honey, wheat germ and lots of other goodies. Everyday is different somedays he'll eat a lot others, not so much. I'm not concerned, if the doctor says he is healthy that's good enough for me.

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
This is Ryan. He is terrible at dinner time, and not a good eater in general. He sits at his table in the kitchen and is only allowed to eat in there. When he gets up, I sit him back down. He eats a little, starts to whine and cry, and then he is done. I only make 1 thing for him to eat, which I know he likes, and he knows that is it for the night. He eats ok the rest of the day but ONLY will eat things a certain way and has a fit if its not HIS way. It drives me up a wall! But dinner time can be really bad or really good. It is very frustrating. I try everything I can think of, but it's still the same. I hope this phase ends soon.

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
When I used to babysit, the little boy didn't eat for a period of time at dinner. The dr. said don't worry about it that he will eat when he is hungy! I thought it was most bizarre, but now that I have two children, I realize how much they regulate what they eat, not me!
They grow out of it eventually!

Re: Why wont my 2yr old eat?
Luka is almost 22 months but I am in this boat too. He doesn't want to sit in his highchair anymore but he won't sit at the dinner table either. Yesterday all he ate was a waffle and then I gave him a drinkable yogurt. I am tired of fighting with him so I decided to listen to the girls on here that say he won't starve and I offer food at each meal a few times (the same food) and if he doesn't want it meal time is over. My DH thinks he lost some weight but I haven't noticed any maybe because I see him all day.
For those that give smoothies can you post your recipes.
