Wide Plank Flooring
I'm looking at getting wide plank flooring for our kitchen and bedroom. Has anyone gotten this? What type of wood did you get and who did you get it from. Do you love it or not worth the money. I'm looking at a company called Heritage from Baiting Hollow, but they want almost $10 a square foot. That is expensive and I want to make sure it is worth the investment. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. TIA

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
i love the look and if i didn't have hardwood already when i bought - i would do wide plank in a second.
but is the $10/foot installed? if so I think that is a reasonable price

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
We were just talking about this.... we put DuPont Laminate flooring in the dining room and are now sorry we didn't go for the real wide plank floor.
I am not sure of the cost, but it would have been worth the investment in my opinion.

$10 a foot not installed. I guess you pay for what you get. I just wanted to make sure it sounded about right, even if it is a bit high. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
It def costs more that the regular width, I think on average about $2 a square ft more.

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
My aunt and uncle did this and my uncle installed it himself. He said it was pretty easy, but I have no idea how much they paid for it. Sorry! It looks great though.

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
Wide plank wood comes from more mature trees, hence the expense.
I know a few people who have bought "reclaimed" wood, from older buildings being refurbished. My cousin got her flooring from an old church in NE.
I don't know how much they paid but $10 a square foot wouldn't surprise me

Actually, $10 per square foot doesn't sound bad. When I was looking, it was definitely more than that. The distressed wide plank was outrageously expensive.

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
I live in London - and mostly if you have wood floors here, they're wide plank - and yes it's definitely more expensive.
Ours are pine. I hate the color of them right now, we're going to refinish them at some point - here's a pic (kind of hard to see - and please disregard stupid TV antenna!!!!). They do them in all types of wood but oak and pine are most common (obviously pine is cheaper than oak, but not as hard wearing)

Re: Wide Plank Flooring
I actually went looking today for floors. I got a price for two that I liked. The first one she said was "quite pricey" and the other was average. The expensive one was $9.49 and the other was $5.99. Both 5 inch planks, prefinished and didnt include installation. The place that I used came recommended to me Packard Flooring Supply Co., Inc. Farmingdale
