wierd but serious question
my son is almost 4 months old. yesterday he didn't poop at all. usually he poops at least one or two times a day. I am still breast feeding. How many days should go by when i should start to get worried? should i give him some water? any suggestions.

Re: wierd but serious question
The doctor told me that you can go 2 days without a BM before you get worried.
Also if you take his temp that might help to get things going...
as well as giving him a warm bath...

Re: wierd but serious question
As BF babies get older, you might see that they poop less because they are absorbing more of the BM into their bodies as they need more nutrients. Totally normal. I've read that BF babies can go up to 7 days without needing to poop

Re: wierd but serious question
ok, so we actually got a tip from a friend who has a daughter....he said to wet a q-tip and gently stick it in her butt we tried it and it def works, mean as it seems.....at first I said he-l-l-l no! but after watching her squirm even I decided to take matters into my own hands (man I wish dh didn't work that day) - and so I went for it....just a little....well, a few hrs later still nothing and so I tried againand slid it further -it produced a little poop immediately but not much.....fast forward to the next feeding where I check again and see nothing so I strap her in, leave her airing her butt on the changing table and go wet another q-tip.....only to return to find my baby squirting out more poop than we've seen yet as I stand in awe holding a qtip and laughing....I mean, my lord, who knew she could hold that much - no wonder she has been so uncomfy........and it continued - every time she seemed to finish and I would wipe squirt, squirt....a true comedy...so now my baby is so much better..and she is exhausted and napping in the swing!
I also researched online and it said its ok for now, and as a breast fed baby, only a problem if she doesn't poop for 7 days (!!!!!!) ...i could never imagine 7 days of her like that!!!

Re: wierd but serious question
Around the same time Jordana had the same thing! The doctor said as long as she doesn't go 1 week without pooping its OK.
ETA: Suggestions. My doctor suggesting taking her temperature. If that didn't stimpulate it, we gave her an ounce of prune juice (Dr's suggestion). Within seconds we had a major poop.

Re: wierd but serious question
at that age my DS was on a 36 hour poop schedule - so there were definitely days he didn't! (BF as well)
