Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
My friends made me a surprise shower. I wouldn't have had one otherwise. We were fully prepared to buy all that we would have needed.

Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
my MIL threw me a shower (she is catholic).
my family came, they just didn't give any big gifts - they will do so after the baby is born.
i still got a lot of things, people's generosity amazed and touched me

Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
I will most likely be having one. My family is not religious at all and my DH is not Jewish. My mom was apprehensive about it at first but then she did "research" and found its a lot more common for Jewish women to have showers these days. They just call it something else - I can't remember what it is, but its basically the same thing as a shower. She went on all kinds of websites and asked people she worked with. She said she feels much better about it now. She found out that there are lots of cultures that have the superstition about bringing things baby-related into the home before the birth of the baby - so there were a lot of cultures that did not have showers in the past. However since modern medicine is what it is today, and the infant mortality rate is so low, superstions are falling to the wayside and more and more of these cultures are having showers.

Basically - its what you feel comfortable doing. The no baby shower rule is based on superstition, not law. You might want to have a shower and then keep the gifts somewhere else. Or you could have a "mommy" shower.

Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
I'm having one. DH and his family don't have a problem with it since they're not Jewish. At first I was on the fence about it, but my mom wanted to throw me one. I'm looking forward to it. Some of my mom's friends also hosted showers for their Jewish daughters. My mom wants to keep all of the gifts at her house, which is fine. I may keep some of the essentials in our garage though b/c my parents live 2.5-3 hours away and I want to make sure we have everything we need right away.

Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
I am not having one, nor do I want one. I'm much to superstitious at this point especially all that we've gone through to get here. I've already expressed my feelings about this to my family. My sister had one and I guess everyone assumes I want to have one as well.

Re: Will any Jewish girls have a shower...
I'll be having one. DH's family is catholic and though I was raised jewish and born to a jewish mother, my mom's family is actually lutheran. I just really haven't been religous or practicing since my bat mitzvah so it's not an issue.
