Will Ferrel backs out of Regan-Alzheimer's "Comedy"

This morning while watching The Today Show, there was a small segment mentioning that Will Ferrell was set to star in and produce a "comedy" about Ronald Regan and his struggles with Alzhiemer's. I was pretty shocked - couldn't imagine how that could ever be funny. The segment mentioned how the Regan family was outraged. I also saw a few negative posts about it on FB today. And now apparently because of the backlash, Will Ferrell has backed out of the project - something that I think would have caused huge downfall in his career.

He would have been a bigger asshole than I already consider him to be if he had done that.

I can't even imagine how a project like this would make it further than the pitch. Sure, if it was a drama or bio, but a freakin' comedy?!

When i heard about this I was so fukking pissed off. Who the he** would make a movie like this!!

I find it appalling that the mere concept of this script was ever even passed along to any actors as a potential movie. I'm glad to hear he backed out of it, but to be honest, I'm disappointed and shocked to hear that he ever considered it to begin with. And while, he clearly was in the wrong here, I think the writer of the script is even more disgusting for coming up with the idea in the first place and pitching it.

I was furious when I saw this on TODAY this morning. Having lived through this with my grandmother, it's nothing to joke about. He's a douche anyway as far as I'm concerned. This was just the nail in the coffin.

it wasnt funny watching my grandma not remember who her kids were, or escape her nursing home and wander brooklyn for 8 F**King hours.

From what I hear he put out a press release saying he received a script. Thats it. There was no green light or studio or contracts. Just simply him being given a script.

And I think its horrendous. There is nothing funny about Alzheimers.
