Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I work in the city and walk from Penn Station to my office, which is about a 25 minute walk...... I bunch of people just told me once i get further along i won't be able to do that walk anymore...Is that true?

OMG I am 32 weeks and I can't imagine that walk. It will certainly take you twice as long.

I'm sure it's been done, but I can't picture having done it when I was that far along.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
It all depends on the person and how you carry during your pg. I know for a fact I could do it, but that's me.
I was raking leaves on a hill when I was in labor. For some odd reason I really handle pg well.
There are plenty of pg women in Manhattan that can do it and plenty who can't. Totally play it by ear.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I think that I still would have been able to do that walk, but it would have taken longer and longer. Even if you are in good shape, you really start to slow down in the end.
I walked throughout most of my PG. Every day I walked during my lunch hour (even through the winter time.) I finally gave up at 38 wks. I was still capable of walking, but I was feeling more tired in general and decided my time was better spent resting at that point. (My DS was born on May 1st)

I would have been able to do it with my first pregnancy. But it really depends on how you're feeling/carrying.

I think if you've been doing it your body will be used to it and you will be able to do it. A lot of it though is going to depend on how you are carrying. You get very big around that time. I think the last 2 weeks might be the most difficult for you.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I do the same. I am 32 wks and have cut back a little (mostly b/c I am rushing to a MD appt and I have to take the subway) but when I do do it, I enjoy the air and walk (it does take me longer then it used to though). We'll see if I can hang in 3 wks.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I did it. I walked from Penn to Times Square every day up until 36 weeks. Towards the end it was tough because the weather was hot and sticky, I had to walk slower, I always got a cramp, and I always felt like the baby was falling out. The bottom line is that yes I did it, and everything turned out fine, but I wouldn't want to do it again.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
It will be difficult, and you will walk a lot slower....
But I think that you will be able to do it.
Now whether or not you will enjoy doing it/want to do it is completely another question.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
Well at 22 weeks my car was being serviced & DH got stuck at work & I waited 10 minutes for the bus & then decided to walk...it was a 4 mile walk. It truly wasn't bad at all, yet I had to keep stopping to rest & I was winded. HOWEVER, I couldn't imagine doing it at the end of my pregnancy. I had a wonderful pregnancy & felt great but I was teaching & I remember having to take it slow just to walk up the 2 flights of stairs in school at the end.
You'll definitely be walking slower & need super comfy shoes. Also not sure if you'll be wanting to deal w/ the crowds on the street either.

I think it depends on the person but I think it would have taken me hours to do that walk during my last two weeks

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
thanks for all the responses. I think i will stop working at 38 weeks. Sounds like this is going to be difficult. I do the walk now with no problem at all, but i'm only 24 weeks. I guess i'll just play it by ear, but the thought of the subway with the mobs of people seems much worse to me than doing the walk.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I never worked in the city but while pg with #2 I was taking a 2 mile walk 3-4 times a week. I delivered July 9th so I was still walking in the heat but I would bring water with me and just walk slower. It normally took me about 30-45 minutes and pg it took me about an hour because I was walking slower. With #1 I would have been able to do it also. If you feel you can do it then try but I wouldn't push yourself.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
The further along you are the more pressure usually you feel and it is difficult to walk. Not impossible but difficult. At 35 weeks I could barely walk to the bathroom but I was already 2-3 cm dilated and baby was really low. I think it all depends on how you carry.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
It totally depends on you and how you feel. My friend stopped working , as a school teacher, around 33 weeks. I taught dance until the day before my induction and that was 6 days past my due date.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
It depends. I did a similar walk until I was 39 weeks, and I walked my butt off the next week too to try and bring labor on (didn't work).
I had some lower pelvic pressure, but it wasn't so intense. Some people have it much worse, and that might make it hard.
I huffed and puffed like mad though, and you can count on adding some minutes to the walk as you get bigger, you just need to go slower.

Re: Will I be able to walk between 35-40 wks?
I had to go into Manhattan a few times towards the end of my pregnancy. I was able to walk no problem, however I did have to walk much slower.
I tried to walk at my usual speedy pace and I got cramps...had to stop and stand on the street until the cramp went away, then walk much slower.
ETA: My DS never dropped, so I am not sure how I would have handled it if he had dropped down.
