Will your insurance cover your child if they need to use the cord blood?
I'm not talking about insurance covering the banking portion I know they don't do that but, I was speaking with my OB and he was mentioning that most insurances won't cover at this time the costs associated with USING the cord blood if you find yourself in a position to need to use it - and that in many cases you would be out 300k-500k for the procedure but they often still see cord blood procedures as experimental.
Has anyone actually researched this?

No one has researched this? I would think since a lot of people decided to bank that they would hopefully know the answer to this!

See we are going back and forth - I have spoken with several people - we didn't do it for DD but are visiting it again. I spoke with my OB and I got some emails from Columbia Presbyterian about it - they are all saying if you don't have family risk factors it probably isn't worth it.
My OB was also telling me that most people don't know who bank that their insurance won't pay for the procedures b.c at this point they are still considered experimental. He was telling me about a sports player (I didn't catch who) had to pay $500k for his child to have the surgery b.c he was denied thru insurance. He said at this time the hospitals stance is not recommending it unless you have certain risk factors.
So I was wondering IF I go ahead and spend all the money to bank - if insurance denies the procedure will I be able to get the 500k etc to HAVE it done in the first place?
