Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

I need help on what to get my friend for her & her husband's birthday.

To celebrate, they are having a wine tasting. They collect wines, expanded their basement to have a wine cellar built, etc.

The description from the invite included a partial list of the wines they are serving:

1998 Talbott Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay
2000 Casanova di Neri Brunnello di Montalcino
1990 Chateau Lynch Bages
1987 Neibaum-Coppola Rubicon

In addition to having the Executive Chef from the US Olympic Committee serve dinner (let's hope we're not eating what was in the pictures posted on LIFChat Icon)

I'm not that much into wine, but need to get her a gift. Any thoughts on what to get the girl & guy who have EVERYTHING? If someone likes the wine listed above, is there another wine you can suggest? Or is wine completely subjective?

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

I bought someone once a picnic wine tote. It was from BBB. It carried a bottle of wine, 2 glasses, and a corkscrew. They seemed to like it. If not, maybe a gift card to their favorite winery, restaurant or store.

I personally would not get them anything wine related since it sounds like they are wine connoisseurs to the 10th power and probably have everything wine related known to man

I agree

I am sure they have everything

it's similar to the reason I don't buy my Dad golf Stuff- he is so darn picky and has everything

how much did you want to spend? There are some facinating and very contemporary decanters that can be found out there.

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

I would try to find their wine and get a GC from there.

Otherwise, nice rustic cheese tray with cheeses.

If you decide to get wine, I would do something like a nice bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir (from Willamette Valley). Its usually wine connoisseurs who enjoy the Oregon Pinots, sommeliers seem to enjoy them so I assume they probably will as well. If you work in the city Park Avenue liquors is very helpful and they deliver.

Otherwise, I would go for some nice artisanal cheeses maybe from Murphy's Cheese shop on Bleeker and 6th.

Good Luck!

That's the problem I'm having. They have everything & anything they'd want, they could get in a heartbeat.

Even looking up the wine they have on the list is making me realize, I'm not going to be able to get them a bottle they really like.Chat Icon

I guess I'll start with something meaningful... For her 30th, I bought her the Mousetrap game. It was a joke from her childhood as her stepbrothers & sisters would let her build the mousetrap & play the game but would make her leave before the trap was set.
We used to joke that she's never seen the trap catch the mouse.

Ugh..I'm so bad at these things.

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

I would get her a gift certificate to wine.com. We used them for my husband's aunt's 60th and got her a bottle of dom perionign and chocolates. They were reasonably priced for the DP. I checked three local wine stores near me and they all cost a lot more and would have charged me a lot to ship it - I was happy with their service. u

ETA: If you do cheeses get a tripple creme' fresh wheel of bree. It usually goes over well as a gift. You could also get a fontina cheese - in my crowd that is always a hit.

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

There are these permanent mounted wine openers that you can mount to a bar. YOu may have seen them used at restaurants. They can open a bottle in 2 seconds and are not necessarily something the average person would have-even the wine enthusiast.

Something like These

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

there is this absolutely delicious elderflower liquor called St germain - it tastes like the sweetest reisling- you add it to either a white wine and serve over ice or you top off a glass of champagne with it or italian prosecco

trust me when i say its one of the most delicious things ive ever tried!

it comes in a beautiful bottle ..its about $36.

you can get them that along with a bottle of champagne (Veuve Clicquot
or something) or that with a bottle of a nice dry white wine.

You can tell them how to use it (the liquor store will explain) and that will enhance the gift more.

Anyway, i love this stuff, its a real treat and its pretty and nice to receive, its not something they would probably buy for themselves ,but it really enhancs wine/champagne and other drinks.

Re: Wine enthusiasts - need gift advice.

Just got an email from Williams Sonoma filled with wine gifts. There is a cool monogrammed bottle stopper/spout in there.

For the wine lover.

I totally agree. They are serving 4 wines for a 4 course dinner perfectly paired it seems.

Nothing food or wine related except maybe a gift cert for Sur le Table'.sur le table
