Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

Which is harder to you think?

Winter because of all the germs floating around and being stuck inside or summer where you cannot put sunblock on and have to be careful of insects etc

I had a summer baby & loved it. I took him out right away and just made certain that he was covered with the mosquito netting & shielded from the sun.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

i think winter newborn is harder. I had a summer newborn and while we couldn't spend any time outside I wasn't afraid to take him out to visit family and occarsonally to a restaurant. The germ factor is SO much higher in the winter which even now prevents me from taking him out and he is almost 7 months.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

What about if you already have a toddler...is it harder on them if you have a summer newborn and you cannot stay outside for long?

Having a winter newborn was very difficult. However, I am glad that I did not miss the summer time while I was healing from my C-section.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

I had both and I think a Winter Newborn is easier because I didnt have to worry about going outside cause it was too cold out. I didn't miss being outside and not in the pool cause the baby couldn't come and play. I like winter newborns but like having a summer birthday, more options.

I had a summer baby and while I'm so glad DD has a summer birthday, I felt like I had NO summer at all. I was inside healing from my c-section and then it was too hot to take DD out most of the time (and it didn't help that she HATED her carseat and stroller so going out period was a struggle!).

Winter. I couldn't give two hoots about germs, its more about being able to walk around comfortably in January compared to walking around the park or around the neighbourhood for a coffee at an outside cafe in 20 degree weather!

My next baby is going to be a Spring baby!! I had better get to work!

Both my babies were May and I loved it! I loved getting out and not having to bundle up. To me, having a winter baby would be much harder.

Could have written this myself, except I didn't have a c-section. We wanted to go outside, but had to wait until the sun went down, and by then we were starting to wind down from the day. My DD hated the carseat too. But I almost think it's easier than having a winter baby, can't walk outside when it's too cold either. I'd say spring or fall would be the perfect time!

I think winter may be harder because of germs, not being able to take them out very young, bundling them up all the time, etc.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

summer- I think it'd go stir crazy if I was "stuck" indoors! DS was born in May, and Dr told us we could take him outside at 2wks. I was careful to keep in out of the sun and covered.

Now that I think about it, I missed out on a lot of summer anyway due to pregnancy complications. It was probably a bit easier to get maternity clothes for summer and I never needed a maternity winter coat. I guess every season has pros and cons. Like I say to the TTC ladies, be happy with a BFP whenever you get it and you will make it work for you and your baby.

I have a winter baby (no summer baby) so I can't compare. I think being pregnant was easier with a winter baby. This winter has been pretty good, not a lot of cold weather so I have taken him for walks almost every day. We don't go to restaurants or crowded public places with him though due to germs, so that stinks. Also, I think my baby blues may have been a little rougher (though who knows) due to the lack of sunlight. I get a little down this time of year anyway.

If you are trying to time it though, go for spring. That would be the best time IMO. Honestly, we tried for quite awhile, so I was just happy to have a baby, no matter what time of year he arrived.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

Very early Summer. And will try to plan #2 accordingly again.

DS was born at the and of June and I loved it. I did not walk outside for 2 weeks due to the c-section. At 2.5 weeks PP, I was walking (VERY slowly) outside with DS everyday. By 2 months PP, I was walking 1 hour everyday. I would go in the morning and/or evening with DH. It was great weather. I did it well into September/October (not everyday though by that time).

ETA: Since DS was born on June 22, I also loved NOT being PG in the middle of summer for a late summer baby or winter baby.

DS was born in January and I will say, it's tough!
I hope next time around we can plan a spring/summer baby. Of course I'll be OK with anytime of the year, but, def. prefer the spring.

Re: Winter Newborn or Summer Newborn

DS was born on at the end of June so we were able to enjoy the summer. I think if I had him much later in the summer, I'd feel different. For DC #2, we're hoping for a Springtime baby. I dislike the cold immensely so I'm not sure I'd plan for a winter baby. If it happened naturally that way then it was just meant to be.
