**Winter-Weather-Themed QOTD 12/27**

And a good snowy morning to all of you, hope you're staying home today (like me Chat Icon )

In light of the weather, here's your question for today:

_______________________________

Will you start your children in winter-related sports/activities when they are really little? Like when you see the little tykes on the bunny slopes, and little tiny ice-skates type thing?

_______________________________

I have a hard time with this one. I'm an avid skier, and DH has played ice hockey since he was very young. DH insists that he is as good as he is because he was thrown on ice skates at a very young age. I didn't start skiing until I was 12, and although I'm quite good, I think I could have been exceptional had I started younger. HOWEVER, the thought of putting a 3 or 4 year old on frozen ground terrifies the cr@p out of me!! In theory I'd love to get them out there young, but... we'll see what happens.

So how's about you?

Re: **Winter-Weather-Themed QOTD 12/27**

well I had never been skiing in my life until I was 25 and was terrible because I was like petrified. I was on the bunny hill and would see little 3 yr olds zoom past me. It made me realize that if you start at a young age you are probably better off bc you have no fear when you are young.

That being said, I would probably try to take my kids skiing and stuff but I won't force anything on them. I will just give them the opportunity to learn if they want.

I was never a skiier since my family wasn't so I can't see us taking the kids skiing. DH enjoys it though so I guess it's a possibility. I love ice skating and always wanted lessons when I was little. I can definitely see us going to the rink when the kids are young. We probably won't have any Olympic champions thoughChat Icon

I have never been a skiier. DH can ski- and insists that DD has skiing lessons when she is younger- so I assume that we'll go skiing. Or rather- they will go skiing and I'll crawl up in the lodge next to the fire with my kindle!

I'm really not a cold weather person, but I have always LOVED ice skating. My parents started us early on that one. I will probably do the same with my DC. Neither DH or I are into skiing, so I'm not sure how that will play out for our DC.

I am not a skiier, but DH is and he is very athletic so I know he would like any and all sports activities. I have always loved ice skating and wish I could skate better. I will give ice skating a try for DD, but maybe when she is 4-5 ish. I don't want to start anything too young. I think the falling would be to hard on me Chat Icon

Dh loves to ski and I can ski but don't love it.

Because we aren't overly into a winter sport i don't think we will unless our child shows a huge interest

we do have friends that have a 2 year old son that is already learning ice hockey, IMO that's to early, he can barely walk perfect nevermind ice skate, but eveyone does what they think is right.

Both DH & I love all winter activities so my game plan is to get them involved in skiing / snow boarding and anything else they might be interested in. I used to ice skate and hated it. If the kid wants to give it a shot I will def support him/her.

Well right now my sister works at a ski resort on CO, so if she's still there when I have LOs I think it would be fun to let them try it out. I'd also love to take them skating on the lake near my house. I have such funny memories of that from when I was young. I think I'll enjoy taking them out to play in the snow and do fun things but probably nothing serious!

DH and I don't ski, I would love DD to learn figure skating. We both did spring sports growing up

Re: **Winter-Weather-Themed QOTD 12/27**

i already have one little guy and i might try him on skis this year - he will be 18 months in march

i started skiing at 4 because i stole my brother's skis - he was 6 - - my parents started him at 5 - i am very good but younger brother is even better and he started at 2 - my cousin stared at 18 months and is very good

i will probably start my son on skates at 2 - i played hockey in high school and college- i wish i started earlier

i know i am insane but i have a child that loves the cold and being outside and skiing is a family thing - ican't wait to have my son on the hill with his great nana - she is almost 85 and still skiing
