They have private rooms and they are first come first serve. I think they are $220 a night. I had one with my son. I was happy that I had it because I was BF'ing and I had a lot of visitors. They didn't bring us to the maternity floor for our tour just the labor and delivery area when I went.

From what I understand the 220.00 is the extra cost to be covered by the patient.

Yes..the 220 is extra. You have to pay that part.

I am delivering at Winthrop too. I have "started" mentioning it to DH. I hate sharing a room with a stranger. Really!!!! He did not say much..Chat Icon

The bill didn't come for a long time. Intercept it and then just pay it!

Re: Winthrop Hospital girls

DH actually wants a private room so he can stay with me. Now that we are most likely getting a c-section then I am not too sure I want to pay it for that many nights. We'll see.....

Is a stay for a c-section about 4 nights?

That is what I have heard so far. I have not discussed the hospital stay with my Dr yet. We will discuss it after my 28 week visit if my placenta does not move.

I asked my doctor and she said if there is one available that night then you are lucky. We are going to pay for one if there is one available when I go in.

Can you make a "pre" request when registering a few months ahead or just at the time you deliver?

Re: Winthrop Hospital girls

I delivered both my kids there. With my first, I knew I was having a c/s when my water broke and I was admitted because he was breech. We asked when we were filling out admitting paperwork for a private room. None were available (i was giving birth to my first exactly 40 weeks after the Blackout of 2003!). SO the first night I had a roommate and by the next day, a private room became available and I was moved to it. Best decision ever, since I was in for 4 nights because of the c/s. it was $200 a night (its up to $220 now!), and my DH had to pay the bill in the billing office before they would even move me to the room! There was no hiding the bill, we had to pay it first!!

With my second (May 2006), I was able to VBAC and had a shorter stay (2 days). I thought of getting another private room, but I ended up lucky - in a room and no roommate the whole time! It was awesome and I did not have to pay extra. It was just the luck of the draw.

With your second visit, was DH able to stay with you since you had no roomate?

We had a 2 year old to take care of, so he didn't stay, he went home each night. But in all honesty, there is no room for him to stay. Unless he wanted to sleep on the rocking chair.... I don't even know if they allow it, I never asked. I can see if you had a private room, but there was no way of telling when and if they would have brought someone into the room with me.

Even when I delivered my first and had a private room, he did not stay. Again, no where for him to sleep!

OOh that is good to know. DH is convinced that he can stay if we get a private room.

I had a private room. I did not think he was allowed to stay. The private room was not large at all. HE had no where to sleep and so he went home. You are alone from 10pm and then they take the baby back to the nursery. I went straight to sleep because I was exhausted. They brought him back every few hours so I could BF. They brought the baby back in the morning and you have a little time to get some sleep, take a shower and eat some breakfast and then my DH came back around 10am. I didn't feel alone at all and I was glad he was able to get some rest. He was with me from 10am-10pm.

Re: Winthrop Hospital girls

When I went into labor I requested a private room when I was signing papers, they noted it and said if it was available I would get one. Well their wasn't even a regular room for me for 4 hours until after I delivered. We went into the regular room and told the nurse that when a private room opened up that we wanted it and they switched us about 2 hours later. Their was no chance that I would have been alone because their were a lot of babies born that night and the next. DH isn't aloud to stay with you but they don't push them out at 10 they are a little more lenient with you.
