Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

Hi- does anyone know what the rooming arrangements have been at Winthrop? Do you think most people share or most people get individual rooms and only if it's super busy-they share?

Due in June- would so love my own room.. but I know Winthrop doesn't guarantee it like other hospitals..

Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

Winthr is always super busy. You can ask for a single but it's first come first serve and you can reserve ahead. Everyone I know who delivered there shared.

They don't offer "private rooms" anymore. They try not to double but if it's busy you more than likely will have a roommate.

They are basically rooms with double beds.

I gave birth there in August 2012. I was fortunate enough to get my own room. I am crossing my fingers that I get my own room this time around!

Re: Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

I delivered there in 2013 and didn't have a roommate. I know that its not ideal to have a roommate but is it really that big of a deal? You both have just been through this amazing thing and have so much in common. I know the bathroom situation is tough but I don't think its the worst thing to have a roommate. I rather have an amazing doctor then worry about switching bc you wont have your own room!

Re: Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

I just have birth in February and had my own room until the day I left. They say that they try to make you overlap for just half to one day if they absolutely have to. So I got discharged at 12 and the other mom had come in at 7. So I had the big double room to myself practically the whole time. They even told my husband to sleep in the empty bed. When I went to the class they said to request it after you deliver and they will try and accommodate you if they have room. The rooms are definitely not as nice as the north shore hospitals but all the nurses were very nice and helpful.

Re: Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

Gave birth there in 2009 and July of 2014 - had a single room both times. First time we were able to request it but had to pay for it, second time the floor was really empty and didn't have to pay. I had 2 sections and couldn't imagine sharing a room. Chat Icon

i absolutely want a great doc, agreed lol!

but there are many great docs out there and only one chance to spend the first hours and days with your baby and husband. i dont want to share that with anyone else. just me and my family, certainly not someone else's.

In all honesty it's not bad at all. You're there for such a short time. True...doesn't have all of the glitz and glamour of LIJ or Manhasset but it's 2-4 days at most and you have the rest of your lives to spend with baby and DH.

Re: Winthrop-rooming arrangements?

Delivered in Feb 2013. It was crazy busy and I had to wait a long time for a room to free up. My first night i shared a room. after she left, i had the room to myself the next 2 nights (c section).

Where it was really annoying having had a terrible labor, being exhausted, puking for 24 hours and being in pain while having my roommates baby screaming next to be ALL NIGHT while my baby was in nursery.... I would not change hospitals for that reason. i love my dr, the other doctors were great, the nurses were great and it is a wonderful hospital.

I am delivering there again 7/31 and while I hope to be alone, if I'm not, I will deal. It's only 3 nights of my life.
