Wish us luck! CPSE evals today! UPDATE!
Our district has us coming to the school. They are not coming to people houses anymore.
We have 2 evals, 2 weeks in a row. Today is speech. Let's see how much he fails.
UPDATE:
Well, it $uscked! DS had a tamper tantrum which he never does and threw on the toys on the ground. He whined the whole time. And of course, at the end on the way to the car, I cried. I hate those evals. While we love him and do everything we can for him with the gazillions therapies he is getting, those evals are just reminders or his special needs. How NOT typical he is! I just feel it's like a slap in the face all over again.

Good luck! Please try not to think of it as failing, but as the evaluator trying to determine his needs so that they can provide him with appropriate services. I know it must be hard to get the results of these evaluations and hear where he is at developmentally. I do CPSE psych evals as part of my job, and giving results is always difficult.

ALL kids throw tempertantrums. Trust me! Maybe he just had an off day! FM me if you ever want to chat. DS had PDD. DD had Ds. We are pretty much in the same shoes. Many to you.

Oh Sophie
As an evaluator, we always know to expect these things - sometimes the evals still turn out better than you would think because despite the tantrums they still show some of the skills they have...
If a stranger walked into our house and asked Cailen to do a bunch of things, he would have a tantrum as well!!!

I understand how you're feeling. Evals are not my favorite either and I'm a little nervous for our upcoming CPSE too
I always say that I prefer to focus on the progress than how he compares at that point in time and evals always seems to feel like a shot to the gut.

Re: Wish us luck! CPSE evals today! UPDATE!
I understand how you feel. DD had her speech eval and did I think the best she could. She has her Special ed eval tomorrow and psych on Monday. I just want all the evals to be over. I have seen how much progress she had made with her therapists but you get nervous waiting to see how they will do in a new setting with a new evaluator.
Just know that you are doing all of this because you want the best for your child!
FM me if you want to vent

tantrums are part of their age right now...
we havent gotten to the CPSE evals yet... but my heart goes out to you, and know that he will get what the therapy he needs.

I know how you feel. I HATE reading the evulations and scores, because I cant stand reading what he cant do, but try to focus on the progress and the things he CAN do. But you are doing the right thing for him.

Re: Wish us luck! CPSE evals today! UPDATE!
I kind of take the opposite outlook on the evaluations. I know that DD needs services and will probably need them for a while. She is smart as a whip though and memorizes things super quick. I am always afraid the evaluation is going to ask her questions she has memorized and will score weill then I'll be screwed lol.
In my heart I know what she can and can't do so the evaluations do not tell me anything new so right now I just take them with a grain of salt and keep doing what I'm doing : ). She just retested and went up 3% points in self help and while that only brought her up to like 7% I was still happy because it was an improvement. As long as she isn't regressing I'm happy with whatever she gets.

Re: Wish us luck! CPSE evals today! UPDATE!
We took ds in to get evals as well.....what a disaster. He wouldn't do ANYTHING for them. We insisted on a re-schedule and for them to come to the house to do the evals and they did!!!!!
Don't look at this in the negative. It is what it is and with the diagnosis or approval of services comes wonderful tools to help your dc. I honestly see it as a blessing in disguise. We'd never be able to afford the full day school ds is in and he is improving by leaps and bounds being there!!!
GL and just remember to breathe
