Witching Hour???

Is it true that babies actually are fussier at night? The last few nights, my son fussed for hours from about 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. until around 11 p.m. He's 6 weeks old. He'd cry and cry. Sometimes I could get him to fall asleep in my arms by walking around with him and with a pacifier, but the second I put him down he'd wake up crying.

The worst part is, I'm not a go with the flow kind of person. I'm full of worry and anxiety. Nights like these upset me so much. It kills me to see him cry and not be able to comfort him. Then I feel scared that I won't be able to handle it or how will I cope if he becomes colliky and a realy fussy baby (so far for the most part he's been a pretty good baby).

Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yup, absolutely true.
If your baby is only crying for a few hours at night it's totally normal... If he is crying for hours on end during the day too then I would worry about colic/reflux...
We used to put on the vacuum cleaner and that would stop DD from crying instantly!
Good luck, it passesChat Icon

Re: Witching Hour???

Just found this thread.

Along with it I think I found my sanity.

Thank god this is a normal baby thing. I swear it's like clockwork.

6:00 = HELLBABY!!

And he stays that way until bed time.

DH thinks Logan hates him because it starts when he comes home from work. Chat Icon

Re: Witching Hour???

It could be the start of colic if DC really cries from 6-11. That's really a lot of hours to be crying. I'm not saying that it's not common...unfortunately it is. My DD had colic and it started at about 6 weeks and lasted until she was 4.5 months old.

You can try a sound machine that has white noise as one of the sounds. It did wonders for my DD...that and the vacuum. My husband burned a CD of the vacuum....that's how useful it was. We used a 70 minute CD and would play it all night on repeat.
