I think I worded it "In lui of toys, please consider contributing to xxx's College Fund." I did this b/c we live in an apartment, and people understand the space limit. A lot of friends and family gave gift cards and called ahead to find out clothing size, other's wrote checks. This was for DS's 1st birthday. For any future birthdays, b/c they will be smaller, I am not going to worry about it.

That sounds kinda what I was trying to do.
Thank you

I'm going to do this.

Um.... I would only say it, not write it. I asked some people to not bring any gifts - their presence was present enough.... and that was just what I wanted! DS didn't need toys upon toys. But to assume or ask for $ instead... IMO, TACKY! If people ask, tell them, but don't write it.

If you get toys you don't want/need, make a wish list @TRU with those toys on it and then return them. It works!

I would never write that on an invite...but Im sure some people will ask what DC could use and you can just say a gift card , clothes, or whatever.

I wouldn't put it on an invite, either, but have sent an e-mail to friends after the invite was sent that said something to the effect of "...many of you have been asking, so I thought I would let you ALL know that Santa was very generous and Sabrina received MANY toys this year. We appreciate your generosity but simply want to celebrate her birthday with you. If you want to bring a gift, clothes and gift cards best these days, due to space limitations..."
