Work Holiday Party - conflict

This is my 3rd holiday season at my current job. First year there was no issue, but last year and now, again this year, there is. I sort of work for 2 departments - the dept I work for on paper and the one I actually do work for. The one I work for on paper is a very integral part of the organization and although I don't see them often, that boss is my "real" boss -who I go to for time off, raises, etc. Both are having holiday lunches on the same date. The dept I actually do work for - I deal with the people and see them regularly.

Last year, the dept I actually work for had their lunch from 12-2 and the one I work for on paper had theirs from 1-4, so I went to the first one at 12, stayed til about 1:30 and then went to the second one. It worked out very well. This year, my "real boss" is having her lunch from 12-3 and the one that I actually do work for is having his lunch from 1-3. It would be almost impossible to leave the 12:00 lunch in time to make it to the 1:00 lunch (and the lunch with "real boss" is very likely to start late - things with her almost always do. Plus I think my "real boss" would take it personally if I left her lunch early - would almost be less of an issue for her if I just wasn't there at all, if you KWIM)

So, what would yo do if you were in my shoes?

Work Holiday Party - conflict

Go to the lunch with your "real" boss. At the end of the day she is the one who approves your raise. Plus if you really don't spend too much time with her it would be a good opportunity to get face time and catch up.

I'm sure the team you work for would understand.
