Work related question...
How do I request a copy of my non-compete from my HR department without raising a red flag that I MIGHT be thinking about leaving? I can't for the life of me find a copy of the non-compete I signed. I've searched through all my emails, documents, everywhere (I would have signed it in December of '02), so I don't even know where to look anymore..

Re: Work related question...
I had to do this last year. I just called HR and asked for a copy. I am sure they knew why, but they didn't say anything to me. I ended up staying so it didn't matter anyway.
Good luck

Re: Work related question...
There's not much you can do to prevent that. Heck, I've had people ask me for copies of their RESUMES that I have on file...

How do I know my HR dept will keep it on the DL though? Do I ask them to keep it hush? I think that's kinda weird...lol

Re: Work related question...
It's your file, you should be able to ask for the whole thing.
I was told at a previous job by the HR department that they offer people's personnel files to them whenever they want to view it.
It contained my reviews, application, health forms, etc. and I took copies of all of it.
I'm not sure if that was an uncommon company policy though.

Re: Work related question...
i can see my file whenever i want too. that's totally within your right. why not ask to see the entire thing and then photocopy what you need. that should avoid a red flag.

Re: Work related question...
Access to files is based on company policy. If you work in NY, your company is not required to give you anything from your file- unless, as a practice, they've done so for others.
You can't really ask them to keep it hush hush.
My advice is to just say that you were going through your records at home and noticed that you didn't have a copy of it. Tell them that you want it because you keep copies of all work related documents like the employee handbook, etc.

Possibly tell them you would like to do some consulting on the side for extra work. You would like to read it yourself ot make sure that this side work does not interfear with what you signed.
