Did you have to have coverage prior to covid as well?

No, and we did not have to do this last year either.

Re: work situation/advice
Can you discuss with your coworker and come up with a schedule that is fair for you to split up the school holidays with eachother? And then I would probably try to just arrange childcare on the days that I had to be in the office. I think that you are right, if you say somethinhg you do risk needing to come in full time again so I would suck it up and keep looking for a new job.

Then I would ask your boss why do you need in office coverage now if it was never done before. I would not bring up any other coworkers arrangement because it's really none of your business, but if coverage was never an issue then it shouldn't be now. I can understand not having you and your coworker that does the same job as you off the same days, it should not matter if they are working from home or in the office.

So pre-Covid you could both take the same time off?

So if I took a week-long vacation I would usually make sure my coworker who does the same job was here, but if it was a day here or there that we both needed off then my boss typically would have allowed it, as she would be here or one the other people that doesn't do our exact job but similar (basically just a body here to answer questions).

So why can't you do the same thing now. If someone is in the office have them cover for you like the past. Did your boss specifically say it had to be that other co worker who does the same job?

Re: work situation/advice
Is there a reason why someone always has to be in the office?
We do hybrid but we all are either in or out of the office on the same days. If someone is out, like I am covering for someone tomorrow and we work from home that day, we just do their work from home on top of our own. Wednesday same person is out and I will do her work in the office.

To piggyback off of this -are the others that used to be answering questions if you were both off hybrid too? Could there be a case where nobody is there to answer questions?
