Work/social vent
I work in a lab, and so everyone is sort of friends, and is social throughout the day. However, I'm not considered one of the "cool kids", and I hate how I'm treated sometimes.
One of my labmates wants a black moor (fancy goldfish with bulging eyes) and wants to keep it in a 2.5 gallon tank. I have had this fish before and suggested in keeping it in nothing smaller than a 5 gallon tank. I mean, I have had experience in keeping fancy goldfish, and they totally disregard my advice. Someone suggested to her to ask a fish person. Um, I am a fish person.
It's just insulting when people treat you like you know nothing on a topic but you are actually quite experienced. I just don't fit in here. I can't wait to finish grad school and come back to NY

Yeah, I have my office door closed now working on my paper. I'm determined to just get out of here as fast as I can.

Good advice. Remind yourself your life as a grad student is only temporary. When someone bothers you like this in the lab, remember that this isn't a permanent position, so you won't have to deal with them forever.
Also you don't want to confront someone like that because first of all, it won't change their attitude, and who knows, they could possibly be your colleague/competitor in the future, you don't want to burn bridges.
But saying that, it IS really annoying when someone doesn't take your advice when you really know what you're doing. But that's their loss, not yours.
