Working moms who BF

Do you BF your DC before going to work? I start back on Wednesday Chat Icon and thought I could and was looking forward to that time b/4 I left, but DD has been sleeping until 7 or 7:15 and I would have to feed her by 6:10 or so since I leave by 6:45.

My ques. is should I try to dream feed her or is that to close to her waking up? I am afraid of her getting upset. Or should I just pump and have DH feed her?

What do you do?

Re: Working moms who BF

With my 1st DS if he was not up before I left I let him sleep and just pumped. It was a pain but I did not want ot disturb him. I am not back to work with my 2nd but he is a late sleeper so Im sure Ill do the same. You have to do what feels right for u though if u think u wont be disturbing her then try it for a few days. Good luck!

Re: Working moms who BF

When I first went back, DD was 9 weeks old and waking at the same time I was, so I would feed her and put her down, then pump out the other breast.

A few months later, she was waking up later and I didn't want to risk waking her, so I would just pump out both breasts.

With this baby, I won't risk waking her. I'll be honest, pumping is easier in the morning for me because I use a handsfree bra and am able to get ready faster.

DD now wakes at 6am but i have to dream feed her at 5am b/ci have to leave my house by 6:15am. It works well for me. And i would rather do that than pump in the morning which can be a pain.

I used to pump when I got to work if DD wasn't up. On the rare occasion that she was awake, I would feed her instead.

Re: Working moms who BF

He used to wake up at 5:30 and i used to feed him before I left, but then he progressively woke up later and I started to wake him up to feed him PUmping was too difficult that early and I didn't have the time.

I would wake her and feed her.

My DD usually wakes up by 6:30, if she is not up by then I wake her. I wouldn't want to miss the closeness from nursing. It gets me through the day.

My start times vary, anywhere from 7amm to 9am ......so on early starts I pump & DH gives DS the bottle. But most mornings I nurse him..........if he sleeps late or I leave early then I pump.

ETA that I guess if I were in your situation, I would pump & not disturb a sleeping baby! My DS, if he is very sleepy does not nurse well asn I would have to pump anyhow!

This is how I feel Chat Icon I am already beside myself about going back, that I was really hoping to at least have a little bit of time in the morning! I guess I will see what time she eats in the middle of the night and go from there. Sometimes she eats at 4:30am which would make feeding again at 6am seem unproductive. I will play it by ear.

The good thing is I have to work 5 days then off for the Christmas break which will give me some time to work out the kinks.

I just want to spend the mornings cuddling with her, not fighting through rush hour traffic.

I don't know how I am going to get through this transition, I will miss my baby sooo much Chat Icon

Re: Working moms who BF

When I first went back to work I would wake up & pump, then shower and get dressed, then DD would wake and I would nurse her. Now I nurse her whenever she wakes up and kind of go back to sleep, then shower etc and skip that pumping session.

ETA: I never had a problem with her waking to eat. I have problems with her waking after she has eaten to get dressed and get out of the house.
