Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I work part-time and at first my goal was 6 months, if I get to 6 months I am hoping I can continue to a year.
I am hoping it gets easier after 6 months, because he will be eating solids too and not just breastmilk. Is this true?

I work part time and go to grad school and have been nursing 17 months already. After six months it definitely got easier. And now it is less nourishment and more for comfort and antibodies.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I only made it to 6m.. my milk supply dropped alot after returning to work.
I know since my dd started solids she doesnt drink as many times a day. She only has 3 bottles a day opposed to many when just being breastfeed.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I constantly adjust my goal. My first goal was to just be successful at BF. When I accomplished that, I told myself I wanted to make it to 3 months EBF. When I accomplished that, I told myself I wanted to make it to 6 months EBF. Now that I have accomplished that (DD is 7 mo), I would like to make it to a year. I have been working P/T since DD hit the 3 month mark, so I pump.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
My goal was always to BF for about 2 yrs. (We are currently at month 14.) I went back to work full time when my DS was 11 wks old. At that point I started combine BFing and pumping. Then I was laid off from that job due to the economy and went back to just BFing from 10 months - 12 months. And now that I'm back working, I still pump twice a day.
I definitely think that it started getting easier when he hit 6 months and easier as each month progressed. But for me it really didn't have anything to do with the introduction of solids. I think that I hit my groove at that point, and he also be came a more efficient nurser as time went on.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I'm aiming for 5-6 months when I have to go back to work for EBF. I think I may wean the daytime feedings to formula in time for September when he'll be in daycare and I'd like to keep the morning and evening feedings if my supply will cooperate. I don't really have a goal for those, I guess until one of us feels like stopping.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I made it to six and a half months. Since I am a teacher, I only had to pump for six weeks because that was all the time left in my school year when my leave ended. By the time I returned in September, I was only pumping/nursing twice a day- before and after work. I just didn't have it in me to keep pumping at work- too stressful, no privacy.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
I think that the first 3 months are the hardest, they eat more often and irregularly. After that it gets easier. I went back to work fullitme at 12 weeks post and bf until be started drinking from a cup. (I pumped once a day at lunchtime for the next day) He drank from a sippy at 10 months and stopped bf at 10 1/2 months. He went right onto water with occasional milk. He also eat toddler food by 8 months (chicken, pasta, etc.)
But my advice is one month at a time, push to get to the next month.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
well, i'm a resident, i went back to work when DB was 7 weeks old. full time work. my original goal was to make it to 3 months EBF. made it to 3, then to 6. then wanted to make it to a year. at 11 months, i ran out of freezer stash, and really wasnt getting anythign when i pumped- maybe 3 ounces all day. so i quit pumping- transitioned her to whole milk during the day, and i continued BFing in the AM and PM. so- a goal? didnt really have one. i said i would take it day by day, i had no idea how pumping would work out while doing a residency. but, i made it to 11 months EBF, and then we went straight ot milk. iits now 2 weeks since i stopped pumping, and i'm still bfing AM and pm- when db wakes and before bed, but going ot wean soon.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
Ryan is 16wks today and I went back to work PT last week. I def. want to make it through the summer but am hoping that when I return FT (when he is 6 months) I'll have my groove going as far as pumping at work, and he'll be nursing a little less, so maybe I'll extend to the end of the year. It's so unreal just how grueling a task it was in the beginning - the pain, the time, the effort, and now it's the complete opposite. In the first weeks I didn't think I'd make it to 6wks - now I'm def. on track for at least 6 months.

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
DS is 3 1/2 weeks old. I will return to work when he is 12 weeks.
So right now, my goal is 12 weeks with an attempt to pump while at work at LEAST once a day. And I thought I could pump in the AM & PM at home to help keep my supply up. Not sure how feasable that is since I don't generally get real break times & am never in the building at the same time each day. If the pumping works out for at work I will attemt 6 months and adjust my goals from there!!

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
Athan is 4 months old today and I returned to work full time when he was 2 months old. I didn't think I would make it this long. I have to admit, pumping at work is a chore for me since work is so demanding with my time and there have been a few times where I only found time to pump once in 10 hours. With that being said, my supply has dropped significantly so at this point my goal is to try to make it another 8 weeks when he will be 6 months old. After that, who knows.

I admit pumping at work is def. a chore for me too! I've been getting up at 6:30 and pumping, then feeding Ryan around 7:30AM, then pumping 3x/day at work. It's annoying to have to wash my stuff in the bathroom sink and even though the office added a lock to my door for this purpose, my boss doesn't know that I'm doing this here. He would probably if he knew - you'd understand if you knew who my boss is. Anyway, the other night he kept coming in my office around my scheduled pump time so I had to keep putting it off. I usually pump around 4:30 but couldn't until 6 - I just couldn't say to him, "could you leave so I can hook my boobs up to this handy machine I have here"

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
Just from experience you can train your body to generate more milk at certain parts of the day by pumping more frequently around a certain time of day. I am in sales and work out of my car. I again went back to work at 12 weeks and was down to puming once a day around lunchtime and would produce enough for sitter the next day. And bf inam and pm. It seemed difficult in begining but gets much easier after a few weeks. Just give it time and don't stress out.
(Plus didn't NY just pass law that mandate time and location for pumping at work upto 2 yrs??)

Re: Working moms who BF, what is your timeline goal?
hi all - i'm so busy at work -this is the first chance I've had to log in in a while...
I just returned to work last week and have been pumping - somehow my supply has increased a bit and am now able to get more for Megan than I was last week - thank god... So I'm going for the 6 month goal and then will see from there what we do.
Jesse- couldn't agree more as to how easy its become compared to the first few weeks! Last night her pediatrician said we should start thinking about adding cereal in the next couple of weeks - I was so upset! I love nursing my baby girl!

I LOVE the nursing part. It is the pumping that annoys me.
I am aiming for 6 months, then I will take it from there.

Really? My ped won't let us start til he is 6 months. BTW, yesterday's Gymboree was SO much better than Sunday's. It was the teacher we had for the trial.

Yeah, I was surprised too - maybe b/c she is so small for her age? I think all peds have different opinions - there is no absolute answer when it comes to these things...
