Re: working moms.....need reassurance.....

I need reassurance too--I have to go back to work on June 19th--14 weeks off.

I am so mixed about it--I don't want to go back, but I do not think that we can do it any other way.....

Tell us we can do it and we should not feel guilty.....Chat Icon

Well, I won't lie, the first few weeks can be really hard. The first day isn't so bad because you have so much excitement from your first day back. It's the second, third, fourth, etc., days that are the hardest. BUT, after you hit your groove and find your rythm, it will get much better. I absolutely love working, seeing my friends, having adult interaction and responsibility, and it makes it that much more sweet at the end of the day to see Alex and give her a great big bear hug. The time I spend with her is more limited as a working mom, but I make every minute of it quality time, and at the same time, I like to think I'm giving her a good example of what she can do when she grows up. I grew up with a working mom, and I think I came out pretty good Chat Icon

One piece of advice - try to allow DH to do the morning drop-off - it's always harder than picking baby up at the end of the day.

It will take some adjustment, but you'll be fine. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was home with Nate until he was 11 months. Although I miss him during the day, I am soooooo happy to be working again. I just wasnt happy as a SAHM. I'm a better mommy to Nate now that I'm working....But I will say that there aren't enough hours in the day.

thanks....we got a nanny and I am going early so I can be home early, so DH gets to wait around for her to come...so when I leave I am leaving him with DH...so I am hoping that helps!!!

I was very happy to get back to work, and I enjoy working and having me time. I work 4 days in the office and sometimes I work from home on Thursdays, so I still have Thursday with them. I lvoe my kids dearly but I would never be able to spend all day every day with them, it is too much.

Like the other girls said, yes it will be tough initially, but like anything else, you get used to it. I can't say that I love being back to work, but I like that I have adult interaction and at lunch I get to do alot of the errands alone. You can accomplish so much more by yourself than with an infant. After awhile, you're realize you're in a groove and won't even think about it.

Thanks everyone--I feel better!! I know it will be tough, but I just can't wait to get into my groove again. Just like when I brought my little boy home--I thought "wow, I can't do this!" and now at 2 1/2 months I am in a routine and I love it.Chat Icon

I also took 4 months off and returned to work 4/1. It is hard, but is is also nice to have a reason to get dressed in the morning!

HOnestly, its not as bad as I thought it would be. I was expecting to be crying hysterically and feeling horrible all day missing Ryan. But I actually like having my "adult" time. It is definitely as adjustment at first, but you do get used to it and it gets easier each day. Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: working moms.....need reassurance.....

I had 8 weeks maternity leave and I cried SOOO bad on my first day back and there are days when I just want to stay home with her all day.

There are some perks though:
1. You have reason to shower EVERY day, some days at home that didn't always happen.

2. You get time to have adult conversation.

3. You can run a quick errand or two on the way home or on your lunch hour, things the baby might not let you do.

4. The baby gets SO excited to see you when you get home, and that is the best feeling every!

I felt the same way. I work 4 days, and would be the most happy working 2. I have a lot of friends who have babies within 2 months of my son, so if I were home, my days would be filled. It is VERY hard at the beginning managing work/motherhood/marriage/household duties, but you'll be able to do it. Chat Icon

The first few days are hard, but since you are usually sooo busy they go by quickly. Just know that you might cry and it is totally normal. We are all here to support you!!!

Re: working moms.....need reassurance.....

My advice would be not to dwell on it. If you made the decision to go back don't torture yourself everyday. Just except it and I think it will make things a lot easier. Enjoy the time you do have with the baby.

Re: working moms.....need reassurance.....

the first week will be hard I know I was calling all the time to check up on my DD even though at the time FH was staying with her. I loved being back to work seeing my co workers and friends and actually talking about adult things and showing off my little chunka of a baby to everyone but after a few weeks it does get easier cuz you get into your groove and beforeyou know it its time to go home a nd see that beautiful face at the end of the day and its the best when they look at you and smile when they see you and when they get older come running mommy mommy mommy hope this helped
