Working out after a c-section?
About how long did it take you to start working out after your c-section?
I'm really anxious and would like to start ASAP, at least walking on the treadmill.

Re: Working out after a c-section?
hi,dont do anything until the dr. gives you the ok. remember with a csection if you dont heal properly you will ache for the rest of your life. wait until dr. feels incision site. usually 6 weeks. I was anxious too.

Re: Working out after a c-section?
My dr. gave me the go ahead at the 6 wk mark, but I wasn't ready yet to go back to my regular workouts. Even 4 mts post partum it still hurt when I did higher impact activity. You can walk, I did 2 wks post partum, but listen to your body!

Re: Working out after a c-section?
I waited until my Dr. gave me clearance which was 6 weeks. I am now 10 weeks PP and getting into the swing of things, but not to the extent I worked out before. There is still some soreness there .

at my 6 week postpartum visit my OB said i can begin at 8 weeks, but to be SLOW about it. i'm going to start with mild strength training and then work my way to cardio.

Re: Working out after a c-section?
I started 6 weeks post-partum, but take it SLOW. I went a little too hard, too fast, and ended up popping one of my stitches

Re: Working out after a c-section?
I started at 5 weeks pp, but I had to be really careful. It still hurt months later. Just go easy on the ab exercises..I also found it difficult to run.

Re: Working out after a c-section?
I was allowed to take DD on walks right away - most doctors won't clear you for more strenuous exercise until 6-8 weeks and most of my friends didn't feel up to it for even longer than that. The key is to start slowly you don't want to rip a stitch and have to sit out even longer or risk infection or other complications.

Re: Working out after a c-section?
They told me 10 weeks because even though you might be feeling great, your insides are still healing.

How did you know that you popped a stitch? I feel a lot of pain today--I stupidly tried to open a jammed window yesterday...I am hoping I didn't pop one myself...
