Working out after c-section...

At my 2 week post-partum appt. the doctor told me no working out yet, but I feel so much better today (3 weeks post-partum) then I did just last week. I'm contemplating starting to work out again--I've already been walking every day, but I really want to start working on tightening everything up, and I need to do more than just walking to do that! Anyone out there start working out before the doctor gave you the go ahead?

Re: Working out after c-section...

I remember at about 3 weeks PP the Doc said to give it another week or two. Remember you'll feeling good, but things are still healing inside you. I remember going back on the tread around 5 weeks PP. I went back to my kickboxing classes maybe 9 weeks PP.

Now that I'm back working full time I don't get as much time to work out so dancing for Mason helps and when he's sleeping I'll do light weights and still take class on the weekends.

Listen to your Doc though and maybe wait another week or so... keep with the walking. Chat Icon

I would absolutely not do it!! The last thing you want to do is tear up your incision!!Chat Icon

My doctor told me it takes up to 1 full year for the incision to heal.

I used to just walk and even one day when I was "power" walking 4 weeks PP, I felt it in my incision afterwards. It was throbbing and I had a couple of searing pain moments and I was so scared of hurting myself.

I would take it easy and wait for the go ahead from your dr.!

ITA!! Don't do it. It's really not worth it. Give yourself time to heal. Whether or not YOU feel better, doesn't mean that what's on the inside is up to par. You just don't want to take that chance.

I can't wait to get back into it either, but there's no way I'm chancing it. A friend of mine ripped open her incision 4 weeks pp from running. So...you just never know what can happen.

Chat Icon I feel ya though...I want to get back into it too Chat Icon Try to be patient...it's really what's best for your body Chat Icon

no way - they say 6 weeks for a reason - you may feel good but your insides are still healing

Re: Working out after c-section...

I went to the doc last week when I was 1 week pp. He told me to wait until after my next appointment which is in 3 weeks. He also said that I still have to be careful exercising and do exercises that are not too strenuous.
