"World"?? Champions?
DH and I watched the beginning of the Lakers game last night when they put up their banner for winning the '09-'10 basketball season. The banner had "World Champions" written on it.
My question and debate is, are they WORLD Champions?
DH says yes, since the teams are made up of players from around the world
I said no, because the Lakers (US team) did not play an international team.
Thoughts??

I also do not like the term "World Champions"
That's like when the "World Series" happens in baseball -- it's all American teams playing against each other. How is that a world series?
I'm with you -- it's not really a world championship.

Not like they are about to play in the World Series anytime soon 
I agree with you both. It should be called the "North American Series" or "North American Champions" or whatever.

I love the USA--but we're probably by FAR the most ethnocentric country out there...and don't give a sh*t that other countries play these sports too!
