worried should I be concerned?

I know this is wierd and maybe I worry too much. Well ds is almost a year and he does not know how to clap his hands together. All the babies I see around his age and younger know how to do this "skill". I show him how and try to clap his hands together put he makes a fist when we do this. He likes to clap his hands on other people's palms but not his own. Kind of like giving five. Anyone else's child not do this? I am going to mention it to the doctor but wanted to see if anyone else experienced this.

He uses his hands for other things like eating (he uses both hands), lifting things, climbing, etc.

Does he do other things like wave and point to things? Is he not doing other things that babies his age generally do? Like standing on his own and stuff?

I wouldn't be worried about just ONE thing but if there are other things as well you might want to mention it to the pediatrician.

I would mention it to the pediatrician. I agree with Melissa/Merlbernai if he's doing everything else but that, I don't think it's a cause for concern. It could be that he needs time to catch up with his coordination.

i worry about this stuff all the time.. but like everyone else said if he is doing other things, don't worry too much. milestones are just an average of when kids meet them. some kids are slower some are faster. it really doesn't matter, most of them catch up to each other by 2 years.

If he is on target with other things I wouldn't worry too much. Around Feb my daughter was BIG with the clapping. Loved to clap for everything and would do it when asked. Now, nope! The older they get the more independent they try to be come. I will say oh clap your hands for Mommy and she will ignore me. I walk out of the room and clap clap clap. So if he is on task with everything else I would assume that it is more of an independence thing.
