Would this be awkward (layout related) Now with Pic
There is an "extra" room on my first floor which is probably best described as a den. It's right behind the wall in my family room and has beautiful wainscotting. I thought we'd make it our office but DH wants it upstairs. We were thinking about making this "den" into a guest bedroom. I'm second guessing because I worry it will be awkward in the flow of the house? Your thoughts?
Edited to add more detail on the layout of the house downstairs. It's L shaped.
Walk in front door stairs are on your right. Left is formal living room in front of that is the dining room then across the back of the house is the kitchen open to the family room and then is that "extra" room.
It would be the door there on the right of the fireplace. I'm standing in the kitchen taking this pic. There is a bathroom to the right of the door to the guest room.

Re: Would this be awkward (layout related)
I don't think it would be awkward at all. A lot of homes have a guest bedroom on the 1st floor and I love wainscoating in a bedroom

I would not be able to comment really until you give a better description of your home. It may be awkward if the room is right off the kitchen, but may not if it is elsewhere.

Re: Would this be awkward (layout related)
If I were a guest I would be so happy to sleep in a bed rather than on a pull out couch or air bed that I wouldn't complain about the location.

Re: Would this be awkward (layout related)
It doesn't sound like it would be awkward, the room is off the beaten path so it's not like you'd have to go through it to get to another room.

Re: Would this be awkward (layout related)
our guest room is on our first floor, right off the kitchen. There is a full bath a few steps away. Our bedroom is upstairs. Overnight guests always say they like being close to the kitchen because they feel like if they want water or somerthing they aren't disturbing anyone. I think it would make a great guest room.

I would make it a guest room, den or an office. Any of them would be fine. Love the fireplace Scott

I think it would make a great guest room. It's a bit out of the way of the main traffic flow of the house and there is a bathroom right outside of the room.

I think it would be fine, the guestroom and guests would be away from the other bedrooms which might give everyone more privacy (depending on who it is)
