Would you buy a house if...
...the side street was a somewhat busy road?
The house faces a road that is a normal neighborhood street, but the street adjacent to the street (it sits on the corner) is pretty busy. The house is lined with tall hedges around it.
DH and I fell in love with this house and the side street would be okay for us, but wonder about resale.
Thanks for your opinions!

Oh good point, I should have listed that in my original post. It is on the quiet street.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
I would not buy a home on a busy street because growing up I hated that I could not play in front of my house and its a real pita getting out of the driveway.

Yes, if I really loved the house and it was a good deal.

No, but that's our choice. We really didn't want to be near a busy road. Also do you have children or plan to have them? If you do, it's nice to be on a quieter street.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
Our house is on a somewhat busy street and it's got it's pro's and con's. The street does not have constant or heavy traffic but it does have a double yellow line and some cars go past pretty fast (but you'll see that in subdivisions too). It is a bus route but I rarely see the bus go by so it's not frequently traveled. We don't have children so that aspect is not an issue for us, however they do have 6 on one side and 4 on the other and none lost to traffic so I guess it's not a major issue!
Pro's: Street is well plowed, early on in any snowstorm. Easy to give direction to friends, service and delivery people, etc. Ice cream truck doesn't park in front of the house every night
Con's: A little harder to meet neighbors, but they have been a friendly group despite the road barrier. A little noisier, but not bad on our street. May be a drawback for selling - could limit buyers if they definately want a quiet street.
If you love the house I wouldn't let the street on the side stop you if everything else about the house, yard and location are good. Particularly if you're getting more house for your money. We have a large house and yard and probably paid a little less than we would have if we'd purchased the same house in a quieter area.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
I would if there was some amount of side yard on the side of the house not adjacent to the busy street.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
My fear is always that somone on the main street could have a car accident into my backyard/sideyard or even worse, into my house. That's the only thing that makes me say I wouldn't buy a house like that. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable with my daughter playing in the yard for the above reason.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
our house is one house away from the corner & our street is extremely quiet, there are only a few houses on this section & there's no need to use our street unless you live in this section(only about 6 houses) but the street at the corner is the road that goes around the lake, so its not a main road but it is heavily traveled for a residential street. It took me a while in the summer to get used to the sound of cars going by at night and sometimes people drive too fast. When I see a pattern of the same car speeding I call the police & give them a desciption & then they come & sit in the neighborhood. (yup I'm one of those people) In order to be near the lake in this neighborhood, you've got to live on that busy street or very close to it. To me being able to see the lake from my house is worth the traffic noise.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
I grew up on one of the most busiest streets in my town. It was a PIA to get out of your driveway (still is). But, if it were located adjacent, yes I would buy that house. We never had a problem at all.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
No. For us, location is very important. We don't want to be anywhere near busy roads. Besides the reasons mentioned by pps, the noise would really bother me. I want to be able to enjoy spending time in the backyard, porch, etc. without constantly hearing cars drive by.

I would not buy a house on a busy road...won't even look at it.
But depending where the house sits in relation to the busy road, and whether or not I could hear cars constantly.

Re: Would you buy a house if...
The house i grew up in was 2 houses in from a very busy road and intersection. I vowed to never live near a busy street again.
I dont think this bothers alot of people, cause i am constantly seeing people building big brand new houses on main roads.
So its all your preference of what you like
