Would you change doctors?
First when I walk in for my first appointment, I was told that there was a mix up and my appt. was really for the next day. I offered to just come back the next day and they offered to see me since I was there. OK...
Well, they RUSHED through the entire process. The Dr. got my due date wrong by 4 weeks. [LMP was Sept.1, he said I was due May 7th. With my first daughter, my LMP was August 15 and she was due May 22nd. based on that alone, I know he's wrong] He was in such a hurry that this "experienced" OB couldn't calculate a due date on his own, used a chart and still got it wrong. He then proceeded to put me in tears over "fear" for the baby b/c my first child was just under 6 pounds even though I told him explicitly that I'd been violently ill with her [MS, the flu, the stomach flu and colds] and haven't thrown up once with this baby. [knock on wood, but that is still true!].
They also don't do any lab work in house...they don't even draw the blood. Obviously most places just draw it and send it out...but they don't even do that...I had to go do this. Well, the lab's hours are impossible for me based on my work hours. So I haven't made it [since Wed.] so I called to cancel my appt for this Wed. b/c I was under the impression that the visit was for lab results...I was told it was for a sonogram when I called...at 6.5 weeks. I tried to inquire why as I find it a bit much to have one now [that and with my daughter, I didn't have one at all]. I had an internal ultrasound last week. The nurse just proceeded to argue that it's routine. I don't really find it all that routine to do a sonogram on a YOUNG healthy, 2nd time mom at 6.5 weeks. It just felt like they were after MORE money than my well being.
To make it all more insane, they didn't explain a thing to me before I left last week...not where the lab was, how to contact them or what I was being tested for....why I was being seen a week later...NOTHING. I actually called them the morning after my visit to find out about the labs. Also, the dr. wanted to screenme for carrying diseases I have a 1 in a billion chance of carrying since they are ethnic-based diseases. It was a waste of my money to get them done in reality, granted, I haven't made it over for any tests.
So given all of that, what would you do? Would you find a new dr. as well? I've already called and requested a refund of some of the payment I made [until late Dec. I dont have insurance so I had to pay out of pocket and obviously [I hope] the amt. I paid is not what he charges for basically a slack routine gyno visit...cause that's basically what I got.

Re: Would you change doctors?
I had a lot of problems with my doctor in the beginning too. I felt rushed, not personal and I thought he screwed up the date too. I would sit in the waiting room for 2 hours (literally) for a 15 minute consult (literally). I was totally frustrated but kept going back for "one more visit". I would say to ask around for a recommendation and maybe give another doc a try for a visit or two. I didn't totally want to change because then I would have to transfer records, etc. and that would be a pain. But, if you are really unhappy - it might be worth it in the end.

I think you should switch if you are not happy. That would totally annoy me also. Im also not happy with my doctor but im a lot further along so im just sticking it out until the end. But i will be switching for the next baby.
P.S. I also told your DH that you should switch.

Re: Would you change doctors?
OMG! I just had to read the title to say ABSOLUTELY! If you ever have to feel uncomfortable, rushed or not getting what you want from this experience you should soooooo change! I changed and went to contemporary womens in smithtown recommended by a LIFER and it was the BEST change I ever made. You are not forced to stay at all. If you are within smithtown vicinity check them out otherwise ask some of the girls where they go.

Re: Would you change doctors?
Thanks ladies! I just wanted to see if I was being paranoid or not...you know how the PG mind works!
I'm on a search for a new doctor...my only issue is finding one that delivers in Plainview or Syosset b/c I am very likely to just "pop" when the time comes and cannot risk traveling very far...otherwise I'd drive anywhere for the appts. Thanks for reassuring me!

Re: Would you change doctors?
I moved and was forced to switch at 14 weeks. Was smooth as silk. I just had my file faxed over to new dr.
I wasn't crazy about my dr in NY. I would have switched if I was sticking around anyway. I hated going to Quest for blood test. I hated waiting in line before work. Its so much easier in my practice. And they do sonos onsite.

Re: Would you change doctors?
I am currently TTC, and had an awful time with an OB/GYN at my last appointment. the guy was a MORON and that is putting it nicely. This doctor sounds like he has the bedisde manner of the docotor I saw. PLEASE SWITCH for your own emotional well being and the health of the baby.

Re: Would you change doctors?
I am in the process of switching doctors myself. I just don't feel comfortable anymore. I am 13 weeks. You definitely need to switch if that is what your instinct is telling you. I was thinking of switching awhile ago and I didn't. I totally feel secure about my final decision.

Re: Would you change doctors?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and trust your doctor. It doesn't sound like that is the case, and the things that you mentioned would make me want to switch too. You do not deserve to be rushed and are entitled to an explanation for all tests, bloodwork, etc., even if they are "routine". I got the genetic testing done but that is totally optional so do not think that you have to. Many practices will now take blood on site as well, depending on the place. My OB is located in Woodbury but delivers at NSUH (not sure about anywhere else) so I'm not sure if that helps you. FM me if you want more information. Good luck and I hope you find someone that you feel comfortable with!

Re: Would you change doctors?
you should change doctors while its still early on I had to change at 5 months and that was no fun so if your feeling this way go for it now.
