Would you change your mind about flu/h1n1 shot if
you were taking dc on a plane?
Not out of the country or anythjing, but we are going to FL in a month. DD will be almost 9 mths them. I was not going to give her either bc she is not in day care, but now I'm thinking of giving the reg flu. Still nervous about swine flu though.
I was giving ds (who's in school) the reg flu shot only as well.

Has she had the flu vaccine ever? If not, then she needs 2 shots within a month of each other. You'd need to get her the first round now in order for her to have immunity for the trip.
Yes I'd be concerned about catching flu on a plane since it's a very confined environment and not disinfected between flights.

Re: Would you change your mind about flu/h1n1 shot if
thanks...this is making me not want to go
and no - none of us have ever had a flu shot.
I will call the ped today...I've been waiting because dc have both been fighting colds.

Curious to know what your ped says...
We are taking my 9 month old DD on a plane to Disney on Saturday and she hasn't had the flu shot yet
Her 9 month visiit was supposed to be this past Tuesday and it got rescheduled because there was an issue with the insurance

There is a concern, but no reason to cancel a planned trip. Just be sure to practice REALLY good hygeine while on the plane. Bring sani-wipes and wipe down anything you might touch (tray table, arm rests). Pack antibacterial gel and USE it like crazy.

Re: Would you change your mind about flu/h1n1 shot if
I'm not giving the H1N1, but did opt for the flu mist (not the shot). I wouldn't give it to my children only because I'm traveling unless I was traveling to an area that was in the hot bed of an epidemic (similar to giving a yellowfever shot if I were going to somewhere were it was rapid).
I would give it if my child had a compromised immune system, a developmental disorder or a neurological impairment. My reasoning is that the cases that my ped said they are seeing are pretty mild. The majority of the extreme cases are with children that have some issues to begin with.

We're going on a plane tomorrow. Everyone's been vaccinated for the seasonal flu but obviously not the H1N1. I will be packing plenty of hand sanitizier but I refuse to live my life in fear of this.

LOL if you only knew me...I'm the most narotic person ever as it is! I send ds to school with hand sani. I will definitely have all that stuff. They'd better let me on the plane with it. I would be spraying lysol if I could!

we're flying to Israel in 2 months- a 12 hour flight, just as we've done every year with Alex. Never had an issue... and I'm not that worried. And no, they haven't had the h1n1 shot.

Re: Would you change your mind about flu/h1n1 shot if
I will say this......we went to Disney from 8/29 thru 9/7 and this was the first & only time she's been sick since she was born 8/08. It wasn't the flu but still. I did get her the shot after we got home. She had it last year as well and did not have a reaction. She didn't get it on the plane I don't think because it wasn't until we were there a week. I would get the shot. My ped hasn't said anything to me about h1/N1. just regular flu

Re: Would you change your mind about flu/h1n1 shot if
I would give the regular flu shot only b/c there are so many people traveling from all over the world at WDW. It isn't unheard of at all for people to come back with everything from chicken pox to strep or the flu.
I'm not sure I'm giving the H1N1 yet either. But I would at least give the regular flu shot
