Would you consider a house above your price range?

Would you consider a house slightly higher then your original set point? Not way above, but $25k-$30k. More or less hoping to be able to negotiate the price to be within your desired price range.

If it was only $25-$35K more, then I would def. consider it. If the taxes were also higher then what we wanted our tax bracket to be, I would prob. think twice about it.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

yes and I only say that because i truly feel that people are pricing these homes much higher than they are worth. when DH and I were looking the crap that was out there and what people were asking for the work that needed to be done was outrageous.

its worth a shot. low ball is some where closer to your price range and go from there. it doesnt cost anything to make an offer.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

Our house was origionally listed 35K above our price range. They dropped the price right before we saw it, and when we bid on it we negotiated them down further. I wouldn't have bought it for the origional higher price.

yes we simply informed them this is what we will pay for x house (what we could afford) I wouldn't buy a house that is 20-30K more then what you can afford (with higher taxes then you originally estimated) - no point in being house poor.

Yes, but only if I could walk away if the price went too high. It's so easy to get caught up when you love a house and the negotiating gets going.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

We didn't mean to...but the realtor talked me into it.

I fell in love and we are now spending $10k over what we meant to.

ETA: we originally offered something in our range. We really wanted the house and discussed it- so we decided to raise our budget. We still paid $20k less than asking

Also- the house needs VERY little work- if any at all. Everything IN our price range needed tons of work, or was too small- so renovations and extensions would have brought us to over what we paid anyhow.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

Yes, with stipulations.

We searched and viewed houses 50k above what we wanted to buy for, especially if we felt the house was overpriced.

We did like one house that was 30k over our desired purchase price, and needed major repairs adding up to another 20k possibly. The same time frame, we were looking at a house that was perfect, but smaller, for 20k LESS than our desired price.

We bought the smaller house because it was the right decision for us. We have been able to do things financially that we absolutely would not have been able to do if we went with the larger house.

Just consider the $ you would have to spend on the house and all the other expenses you may/will have to incur - furnishing the house, upgrading, repairing, fencing, decks, patios, cesspools, if you want to go on vacation, etc.

yes - we are looking at a house that we plan to not pay more than 20K less than asking.

in the same regard, we are selling and I'm expecting that a bid will come in about $20K less than asking.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

We did, and wound up buying our house. We just had to go up that little bit to find exactly what we wanted. I was against it the whole time though, DH really had to convince me. Glad we did it.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

yes absolutely. we did and it made such a difference in the types of houses we were able to look at - and in the end we got an accepted offer of only 5K over our limit, which in the grand scheme of things, is barely noticeable.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

we looked up to 25k over our limit but only on houses that had exactly what we wanted, ready to move in and that had decent taxes......

if a house was over our budget with high taxes or needed work....then absolutely not

i would hate to get into a house and not afford to enjoy it!

good luck

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

Probably not, unless I thought the price was very negotiable. One of my favorite things about our house is that it was on the low end of our budget. I appreciate the breathing room and the fact that we can still enjoy life a little.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

Our house was listed over our price range, luckly they accepted a lower offer.

I say go for it, as long as your willing to walk away if the seller won't come down on the price.

Re: Would you consider a house above your price range?

Our house was listed at $25,000 above our highest point. We were able to get the house for only $7,000 higher that what we originally wanted to spend.

Def put in an offer - you never know. 25k percentage wise (depending on home price) may not be that much money.

Be careful before actually spending more than you are comfortable with. Higher housing costs will mean less money for other things in your life. You are the one who would make the sacrifice and it needs to be something YOU are comfortable with.
