Would you/did you leave DC in a daycare/camp while at a resort or on a cruise?
We are going on a cruise this Sunday- New York to Bahamas. We are taking Ava, she will be 4 in July.
They have childcare/day camp. She would be in a group -ages 3-5. You can bring them a few hours or they can stay all day.
I was thinking of checking it out, and then if I was comfortable with it, I may put her in a few hours here and there. They give you a beeper so that you are in constant conact with them.
Would you do it? I am getting mixed opinions.
Thanks, Tara

At her age, yes, I would! I have lots of friends who've enrolled their kids in the kid programs at their resorts and the kids have loved it!

I couldn't imagine doing it beforehand but when we were in Mexico all of my co-workers' kids went. Now I would definitely consider it.
The kids that went the first day spoke to the kids that didn't go...next thing you know almost every kid in the resort was begging their parents to go. They had a great time.
I know my girlfriend sends her daughter to the camps almost every vacation. Her daughter loves it.

Only b/c they would give you a beeper to be in constant contact with them.... that would be a great idea - as long as they were professionals doing the watching/instructing...

My DD is the same age. I most likely would if I went and checked it out and felt comfortable with it after seeing it and seeing who is in charge and what she'll be doing. I think it's a good age for her to be able to have a few hours of fun stuff while you lie in the sun and catch up on reading or whatever.

Re: Would you/did you leave DC in a daycare/camp while at a resort or on a cruise?
I definitely would consider it !
I remember on our honeymoon cruise, we sat at a table with a couple that had 2 girls (the youngest was probably 3 or so) and the kids LOVED the day camp ... they had so much fun and honestly wanted to be with the other kids on the ship more than with their parents (and their parents got some much needed alone/down time in the process)
I would def. check it out!

Re: Would you/did you leave DC in a daycare/camp while at a resort or on a cruise?
We took our kids on a cruise with us a few years ago and they loved the day camps/childcare. We took them with us one day and they complained all day that they wanted to go play with their friends, we ended up taking them back. They had so much fun, I am glad I took them, it was well worth it. They have so many activities they do, it is so worth it, IMO. Have fun, it is a great time for you and DH to get some good, alone time, there is so much to do as a cuople. My DH and I had so much fum, it was like we were without kids again. We did do all meals together, that is important to us as a family though, to eat together.
HAVE FUN, I am so jealous, I want to go again so bad.

Re: Would you/did you leave DC in a daycare/camp while at a resort or on a cruise?
I would definitely check it out - you don't have to leave them in it all day - but every time I have seen those camps on the ships the kids are having a blast - many of the parents I talk to say their kids don't want to leave -so they have to drag them away. They usually do crafts, games, etc with them. I would definitely take them and you can always not return if your child doesn't enjoy it. Some ships even give pagers so the kids can contact the parents if they want to leave the program.

If it looked ok, I would. I'm sure I'd feel guilty at first, but as others have said, I'm sure my DD would love it and she'd have a blast there.

Re: Would you/did you leave DC in a daycare/camp while at a resort or on a cruise?
Heck yeah! In fact DH and I are considering going to FDR Pebbles because they provide every family with a nanny. Especially as DS gets older (he's too young for camps right now) that will be a big consideration when booking trips. I always went to kids camps and I loved it. I begged my parents to go even when they wanted to spend family time.
