No way in heck.

But DH and I really, really, REALLY hated driving to Florida by ourselves.

Hmm IDK. My girlfriend did that with her ALMOST 2 year old and it went pretty well. But there is a big defference between 1 and 2.

I drove to Virginia.. and I dont know if I could do Florida. You would probably have to make a LOT of stops.. but if that doesnt bother you then it might be fine

It really depends on your child. DS is 2 and I would NEVER EVER with him. DD is almost 1, and I would with her. She is more easy going, and DS on the other hand, well isn't. Chat Icon Even at 1 year old, I wouldn't with DS. So it really does depend on your child's personality.

couple of months ago, I would say yes... right now - hell no! since he started walking he wont sit still for a minute... we drove to Rochester with him a month ago and had to stop at least 3 times to get him out of his car seat and let him move around the car for a bit (and thats only 6 hour drive)

I drove to Disney with my mom when Emma was 18 months old. It was no big deal at all. I would do it again if I had toChat Icon

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

I did not once but 2x's. My husband is afraid to fly and we wanted to take our middle guy to Disney for his 1st b-day so we drove, then when we came back and shortly after my dh's grandfather passed away and we had to drive back. Honestly it wasn't that bad it only took about 15 or 17hrs I can't remember anymore. What we did both times is left around 11pm therefore the children slept most of the ride. When they were up we would stop a few times and let him walk around for 15mins then get going again. The 2nd time we went I was pregnant with #3 and my dr. said I had to stop every hr for 10mins to get the circulation going in my legs so I wouldn't get blood clots. And lastly we had a dvd player in the car so brought a few movies, and some snacks to hold them over until we would stop to eat. Any other questions feel free to ask Chat Icon We will be doing this ride one more time but it wont be until my littlest is 5yrs old (he's only 1 now) and that's because he needs to see Disney to Chat Icon

No - that is a very long drive with a small child - to do it right you would need to make so many stops to stretch that it would take forever to get there (unless you drove almost exclusively at night while they slept).

You know your child better than anyone. I know that my DC would not stand for a car ride to Florida.

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

We've down it - she was 7 or 8 months old.

It wasn't bad - you just have to make sure you have things to keep your child occupied

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

We are this august DD will be 18 months old , we plan on taking a dvd player since I am not sure if we will have one installed on time for the trip and books and toys for her.

she is really good in the car especially when someone is with her in the back and thankfully with the minivan it is very spacious for me too being pg.

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

I did with DS (his 1st trip down was at 6 months and we have gone every year since then) We drive straight through, so we made plenty of stops for meals and reststops. It wasn't as bad as was first expecting; bring some toys/books to entertain and we brought a portable DVD player which helped alot. Also, we leave our house NY at 8pm so DS could sleep through the night!

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

I spent 8 hours yesterday with a 8th month old. The only way we survived is that I had my mom with us and she hopped in the back and kept the baby occupied. If it was just the baby and I, I probably would have lost it somewhere on the NJ Turnpike. Since she started crawling she does not want to be restrained for long periods of time at all, no matter how many toys we lug with us.

Straight through, I would do it at night and only if absolutely necessary.

I would if you are planning on stopping at sights on the way down and taking your time to get there.

Re: Would you drive to FL with a 1 year old child?

We drove back from Disney in April (took Amtrak autotrain down) with our 2.5 and 4.5 year olds and it really wasn't bad at all. We left FL at 7 am with the intention of stopping overnight by 6 pm, but decided to drive straight through (got home at 2 am Chat Icon) b/c the boys were doing so well.

Our last rest stop was at a Burger King with a playground. They ran around for 1/2 hour and were asleep by 9 pm. Chat Icon

I'd do it again. Chat Icon
