Would you enroll your DC in a swim class (or other baby class) smack in the middle of his naptime?

We wanted to enroll DS in swim class but the one we want is scheduled for 10:30am. This seems to be a very popular time for baby classes. It so happens to be right in the middle of DS's naptime. He usually naps from 9:30 to 11am.

I would, but DD is super adaptable and would just adjust her nap time on her own.

When does class start? Would you have time to work on a later nap schedule?

Probably not, and I'm not that strict with her naps.

It starts at 10:30am. I think it's an 1 hour class.

It would depend on how well my DC did with change. If my child wouldn't be able to nap later, then I wouldn't. If I knew DC would be able to adjust to nap time being moved, then yes.

Sorry, I meant does the class start soon (few days, few weeks)? Can you work on pushing naptime back a little at a time?

Starts in March. It will be once a week for I think 8 weeks.

nope.

i had a few issues with scheduling DD#1 around nap time. i started her in a 2 1/2 hour drop-off babysitting service at 18 months, and when i picked her up half the time she had snuggled up in a stroller dozing off.

just recently right around the time she was dropping her naps completely, i scheduled her in a 2:30 dance class and she was a cranky monster. but once she got over the hump and dropped the naps, she was fine...

I'm a slave to the nap. My DC get cranky when they don't nap.

Agreed. Before DS was 1, I kept everything worked around his nap schedule. NOw at 2 I would schedule something, and probably regret it later.

IMO especially with a physical activity like swimming, you are better off doing it before or after nap time. Otherwise you could just have a screamer on your hands!

yup, I have. Erik usually goes down for a nap around 10:30-11am, but now has swim class at 10:30. Makes for a nice nap after class!

No, it seems every class is in the middle of his naptime, it sucks, but I won't ruin his nap.

I wouldn't. DS only takes one nap per day I can't let him miss it.

Well, it depends. Does DC take only one nap? If he only takes one nap, then no, I wouldn't

But if DC takes more than one nap, and is getting closer to the age where they will only take one (which would probably be later than 10:30am) then I might do it

no way.

In our case, DS would've been completely unproductive and probably would just melt down the whole time. I always schedule things around the nap when possible.Chat Icon

No.

My DS did not and still doesn't really do well with changes to his sleep schedule. He's generally a good sleeper, but only if we stick to the routine.

I was as well up until she was about 2 1/2....now she skips naps every so often (usually on the weekends) and she is fine

to the OP, miki used to always nap at 10am

once she started at a new in home daycare situation, the sitter told me that she planned to have all the kids nap after lunch and she was able to transition from napping at 10am (which she had been doing for over 12 months at that point), to napping at noon, like all the other kids

try to push his nap back if you want him to go to swim class

of course they need to nap, but they do not NEED to nap at 10:30 Chat Icon children are very adaptable

try to push his nap back now and see how it goes, by march, he just may have a new nap time Chat Icon
