Would you like this as a gift? *Update with new question
A friend from graduate school is due this weekend and I wanted to send small gift. I couldn't find any registries for her, but do you think you would like this frame?
She's having a girl (this is the sample picture from the website).
Thanks ladies!

Okay, so I see the frame wasn't a big hit!
What would you love to get as a gift if you were having a girl?? I'll be sending the gift from CA to NY. The frame would have been $50 (they are hand-made) so that's pretty much what I'm looking to spend; however, I would be willing to go up to $100.
Thanks again! Can't wait to join this board someday!

They are cute, but I am not a big fan of picture frames for gifts. Just my opinion.

I think this is a "tricky" gift.
I personally don't like those.

Personally, I like them. I think they are funky and colorful. Think about your friend's taste. Do you think it's her style? Either way, it is a really sweet gesture to send her anything at all.

Re: Would you like this as a gift?
I think they are cute, but do you know if it will match the nursery?
Maybe you could just get her a couple of little things like a pacifier, onesie, rattle, and put it in a gift bag?

I agree. I like picture frames myself, but i wouldn't want to give them to others as gifts.

I am not crazy about them, sorry...
What about something like this? My friend gave me one for each of my children. I love them...the photographer goes to Rockaway Beach (I think) and writes in the sand and then snaps away as the water runs up. Beach writing

i personally love them, but that's because they are my taste... i wouldn't worry about them matching the nursery, the frame can go anywhere in the house or at your friend's desk if/when she returns to work.

Red Envelope has great baby gifts, and the presentation is always a hit (red box with white ribbon). Here's a link to the baby gift section of their site. Lots of great things in your price range:

Re: Would you like this as a gift? *Update with new question
I would want to get a gift that is more useful than decorative.
So like I said in an earlier post a gift bag/box of items would be #1 on my list.
You could fill it with onseis, pacis, teethers, bibs, wipes, diaper cream, all the little stuff she may not necessarily have or have enough of.

I agree. Useful is the way to go! You can get tons of onsies on sale ($4) at gap and bibs/teethers/pacifiers aren't expensive either ($2-5). A cute gift basket would be nice.
Did your friend not register?

I couldn't fine a registry for her. I checked buybuybaby and babies r us.
I'd love to do the gift basket if you all think that would be the best thing for her.
Okay, so...
onesies bibs pacifiers teethers wipes diaper cream
anything else?

Also, I don't want to sound ignorant, but they are Jewish Orthodox and I know that my friend does not wear pants or short sleeve shirts. Would it be the same for the baby?
I don't want to get something inappropriate.

Re: Would you like this as a gift? *Update with new question
I got a ton of onsies, bibs and pacifiers already at my shower - what I didn't get enough of was Baby wash, lotion, vaseline, wipes, cotton balls, diaper cream. I would also through in a Post partum support (they sell them at BRU $25) for mom to wear. It supposedly helps her stomach get back in shape. I would love to get that as a gift from a good friend...

ITA. Although, I didn't get that many onesies and clothes for when the baby is 9+ months, so that might be the way to go. I would also love to get that tummy wrap thing that JChia talks about, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about giving it as a gift.

Re: Would you like this as a gift? *Update with new question
Just saw your post that she is Jewish... then she probably did not have a shower and therefore would need lots of the stuff mentioned above. Add some recieving blankets to the basket, wash clothes, socks and mittens (so baby doesn't scratch her face).
