Would you move to be close to family?
Would you leave a very secure job (pension, benefits, the works) that you are fairly happy at to move to another state close to your family?
Would you consider it differently if you had kids?

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
No I wouldn't. We don't live near family now, we live in Colorado and never consider moving back to NY. My mom actually moved out here 6 months ago but even if she wasn't here I still wouldn't move.

I would and I did.
We moved back from CA to be close to our families. And kids definitely played a factor. I didn't want to have them until we were back.

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
it depends on how close I was emotionally to my family....would I come back to NY? No.
Would I want them to move here, Yout bet your butt.
I left NY to escape some of them, but left behind others that I really can't live without.

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
Thats a tough one. We both live very close to our immediate family.. and we love that. It's had to imagine NOT having them around as much as they are...
In the long run I would do whatever was best for my family. If I was in a really secure job making good money, My kids were in a good school district, and we were settled in a nice home, then No I probably wouldn't do it.

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
I think that in the respect of being close to family, we are not considering moving out of state because I wouldn't want to be away from them....and jeez.......how much better off we would be if we did move.
So I guess I would move to be close to my family.... we spend a lot of time together!

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
I would move and leave whatever I had to be close to my family whether I had kids or not. I am EXTREMELY close to my family and not seeing them more than once a week is hard enough on me! Without my family, nothing else is that important.

I would not move if I had a great job, nice house & Marissa was in a great school district just to be close to family.

Re: Would you move to be close to family?
This is tough...
my parents live in Queens. My DH's dad lives in the Hamptons and his mom lives in NC. Every time we go to visit my MIL in NC, we think about the slower pace, cheaper living, etc. He misses him mom a lot. If we moved down there, I'd be able to stay home with our (future) kids. We could sell our house in NJ today and buy one for 200k less down there!
I would hate to leave my parents.....but if I did, my entire lifestyle would be different!! I don't know...........
