Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
Given it was the same distance...like 45 min either way..which do you prefer.

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
I voted for the train. Even though the train can be a pain in the a$$ sometimes. I much prefer sitting back and relaxing, sleeping, reading then fighting traffic. I didnt the driving thing for almost a year (and I was driving from West to East and hated it) and have been taking the train for about 16 years

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
It depends how far I am traveling. If it was a trip to NYC, I would take the train and read, sleep or knit. If it was a local 15 minute away job, I would drive.

I prefer the train -- it gives me some down time and a chance to read, rest, listen to music, or just stare out the window.

I voted drive...but I wouldn't drive into NYC everyday. I took the train when I worked in NYC because driving in NYC is a PITA.

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
I did both for several years... commuted by train to HS, and then by car to college, same distance, different direction. While it's great that you can read on the train, you don't alwyas get a seat, can't control the temp, etc. I like my car because I can set up my little coffee and granola bar, bring as much crap with me as I want, and I always get a seat!

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
Train. As much as I complain, I have the worst road rage and I can't imagine how high my stress level would be if I actually drove into work. For a driving commute, the longest I can handle while maintaining my sanity is 20 minutes. The only exception would be if I did a reverse commute (driving west to east as opposed to east to west).

Drive. It would be the only time during the day that it's just me. And I could sing along to the radio at the top of my lungs if I wanted to.

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
I hate driving in commuter traffic, so I voted train. However, now that I work in suburbia, I love having my car at work to run errands at lunch and after work, because it is too far to walk to much around my job.

I have such train rage (yes, I just made that up) I could only imagine what my road range would be like in rush hour! Right now I am leanign towards looking for soemthign I can drive to, but that is because I am trying to shorten my commute from 60-90 minutes, to 25-30 minutes.
Even the tiem was equal, the major advantage of driving, to me, is that you can leave when you want & not have to be dependant on the train schedule.

This has to be real! I'm slowly developing mine. Metro North has been the biggest PITA!!!

Train rage I love it!
As a fellow Metro-North commuter, I agree with you both wholeheartedly!!! I have never EVER commuted any other way (I"ve always lived in Westchester and always worked in NYC) so while M/N has its frustrations, I honestly could NOT drive in a car for even HALF the time I spend on the train .. my husband drives from Scarsdale to Long Island every day and seriously he deserves a frikkin' medal!!
BUT I agree with Heather that the only thing I WOULD like about driving is not being stuck on a schedule. On the occasions where I go out after work or have to work late, being tied to a train schedule is a royal PITA
Hey girls we COULD have it worse - LIRR is still 100000x uglier than Metro North (at least IMO )

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
Is anyone else like me where the "stuff" factor is huge? I can't walk around or stand on the train for an hour in heels so I have to bring my heels in a bag along with like, a book,. my iPod, my purse and everything else,a nd it just ***** to have all of that stuff on the train. I love my car because I can bring as much shizz as I want...

I have to say, I did the LIRR for a while and coming out of White Plains now - I'm so glad the waiting room doesn't smell like pee (so crucial on cold days).

I am a 'stuff' person because I write, read, listen to music, bring food and try to get to dance classes. Though if I commuted by car, it would look like I lived it in because I used to be so bad at cleaning it out when I had one.

While I love being in control and driving to work, I prefer to sit back and read my book. I miss being able to do that.

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
If by train you mean all trains (i.e. subway), then train. But if it means LIRR or commuter rail, drive.
I HATE the LIRR. And I'm going to have to use it again when I move . But the subway is amazing, I adore it!!!

Train... at leat I could get 1 hour of grading done a day that I would not have to do at home.
Not an option though as I teach and live on LI.

I don't really like driving so I prefer the train. I also like that I can sleep or do work on the train.

Re: Would you prefer to drive or take the train to work?
Drive, I control the heat in the winter and the a/c in the summer. I can listen to whatever radio station I want too. Also, if I'm running late I'm running late. If I had to make a train, I could never run late and that scares me!
