Would you purchase a house

that you loved on a block that you didn't like? ( overall area is good - just if you didn't like the block for whatever reason - the other houses, neigboors, etc.)

Would you purchase an OK house but not one you 100% loved on a block that you loved?

Re: Would you purchase a house

I would not. You need to leave the house at times and especially if you are going to have kids, you should make sure that the atmosphere you live in is bearable.

Re: Would you purchase a house

no b/c the first rule of real estate is Location.,location, location

and the second rule is buy the worst house on the best block

if you don't love it- there must be a reason- and when you go to sell it- it could be a problem

Re: Would you purchase a house

no way we had an accepted offer that was on a block that I was concerned with but the house was better that we ended up with.

It drove me crazy so we pulled the offer,. I love the block we are on now and the house is coming along

Re: Would you purchase a house

We actually came across this.

We loved a house but all the neighbors were motorheads with busted vehicles in their yards and yelling back and forth about autoparts. DH nixed it. So, no.

We drove around neighborhoods we loved and looked at fixer uppers that we could make nicer to match the neighborhood. But didnt find any we could afford/saw enough potential. So, yes.

We ended up finding a house we love in a neighborhood we love.

Be patient. Dont settle.

Re: Would you purchase a house

nope!

DH and I LOVED a house we looked at a few months ago. it was in MINT condition and even had extras above and beyond our wish list. it was in the town we wanted, but it was on a street with a double yellow line and that particular area looked a little... Chat Icon questionable.

we did not bid on it, but it was SO hard to walk away from a gorgeous house like that in our price range. Chat Icon

Nope. You can fix up the house, but you can't make the neighbors move Chat Icon

I agree, no matter how much I loved the house, I would not buy it either.

Re: Would you purchase a house

We bought neighborhood. As you can tell from the pictures on my thread the house needed a complete gut but I loved the location, the fact that it was a colonial, and I loved the layout. This house was by far in the worst shape of any house I saw but I just loved my "diamond in the rough".

Plus, if you buy a house in a excellent location that needs work you will build equity over time as you fix it up.

Re: Would you purchase a house

No... I think back to my last apt...YIKES! I lived on the SAME STREET just different block and it was heaven. Everyone was so incredibly nice and just pleasant. Then...we moved a block away...OMG...FREAKS! Everyone was completely insane!...(I'm serious!)Chat Icon There was NO WAY I'd buy a house on that block.

Re: Would you purchase a house

Definitely not. But I would purchase a house that was just ok on a block that I loved. You can't upgrade or change the block, you can your house.

1. no..just went through this and it was a really difficult decision...house was fabulous. Street was a tad too busy imo...

2. HELL YEA...that is if it was structurally what i wanted and saw the potential
