Would You Quit Your Job Before Finding Another?

Would you quit your job before finding another if you have a 6 month reserve? And would quitting your job really hinder your job search?

I'm seriously thinking about quitting my job very soon, not getting the respect I need at my current job .They've hired someone with a very similar title to my own at our headquarter office who I'm supposed to be reporting to! And this person wants me to start transitioning some of my responsibilities to him! :P

So I'm now teaching this guy what I know, while knowing full well that after he has the info, they can let me go anytime.

What would you do?

I would probably teach him everything the wrong way and then quit and screw the company!!!

Seems as if they are gonna phase you out anyway!

The only way I would quit a job before having something else lined up would be if it was causing me so much stress that my mental and/or physical health was being majorly affected.

If you are fairly sure they will give you severence, I would hold on for that and in the meantime, get my resume together and see what is being listed out there.

it's easier to get a job when you already have one

so I would start looking and hope you can get your servence and start a new job with in a few weeks of that!

I quit before I had a new job.

I had been interviewing, and had three different second round interviews lined up. It was just getting way too difficult to keep up all the lies (i.e. Dr's appointments and flat tires ).

I told my new potential employers that it was EXTREMELY difficult to interview because my hours were 8am-7pm, and we had team meetings during our lunch hour. So that was my formal explanation as to why I quit before I secured a new job!

I started my new job 6 weeks after I quit my old one.

For me, there's NO WAY I'd quit a job before having a new one lined up. I've had some VERY crappy jobs - unappreciated, underpaid, disrespected and overworked - and I still didin't leave without having something lined up. The thought of being unemployed even for a day causes major anxiety for me.

If I were in your situation, I'd definitely be looking for a new job but I wouldn't leave until I had one.

I wouldn't-
if you think they are gong to lay you off then you can you might be getting severence pay, and you can also file for unemployment.
if you quit, you can't get either.

I'd wait for the severance. Do you have an end date?

My last company relocated to PA and I knew what my last day was. I had to train others to do my job but at least I knew I would be getting 3 months severance pay after I left... enough time to find a new job too.

I would if I financially could. I have been in a situation where I was getting sick, physically and emotionally every day but I couldn't quit bc we needed the $$.

I quit my job without another one lined up. It was a horrible situation and i was miserable everyday. I was putting in over 12 hours a day and that left me no time for job interviews. The second I put in my 2 weeks I contacted a recruiter and had a job lined up for 2 weeks after my last day, I was really lucky. But to me, if your job makes you miserable, its not worth it.
