Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

We stayed at the Divi on our honeymoon, and went on a few excursions that provided transportation. We took public transportation into the downtown area one day, which was easy and inexpensive. We spent the nights back at the resort, so I dont know how the transportation would have been at later hours.

I didn't feel like we needed a car, but we were also at the all-inclusive part of the Divi, so we didn't leave for food.

There is an ATV tour that I've heard is great, and you get to see the whole island.

We rented a car while we were there but, barely used it (except to take us to/from the airport and to move midweek).

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

we did and plan on doing it again when we go back in October but we also rented a private home that is right near the airport and needed the transportation.

I have heard that many people that stay in either the highrise/lowrise areas do not rent cars bu take cabs if they want to go out of the area

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

I don't think it's necessary. Most excursions provide transportation and cabs are pretty reasonable at night!

I would say yes. They have so many great restaurants. We'd definitely get good use out of a car.

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

We did. We drove to restaurants every night (one I remember was pretty far). We also went to see lots of things like baby beach etc. We also did a lot of off road driving - we drove from one end of the island to the next....which can get very scary, we ended up stuck teetering off rocks on a mountain and had to have some locals who were (THANK GOD) passing by below help us get the car downChat Icon .

I'd say you shouls only if you plan to go exploring and not use a tour service. the cabs there do not have standard prices, and you could get in one and pay a huge fee and then go to the exact same place the next day and pay half. Its crazy. and you have to haggle with them which was more then annoying! the cars are dirt cheap to.

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

If you want to do things on your own time yes. I would recommend it. We did and loved it. We were able to go to restaurants that were far and since we are snorkellers, during the day we snorkelled where we wanted. It was great to get out and just go into the water and look at fish and not be crowded.

Yes. We like to explore on our own though. I am not a fan of tours or being on others time schedule.

Really? It is so close to Venezuela? I don't remember gas being that expensive there. I don't think it could be $14 a gallon anywhere except somewhere in Scandinavia or England.

Aruba? I just don't believe it.

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

We did the second time we went and we stayed at the Tamarijn. The deciding factor was that we wanted to go to the Flying fishbone for dinner and taking a cab there and back probably would have cost the price of renting a car for 2 days. So we rented for 2 days, drove around and got to see things we didn't see when we went on our honeymoon.

DEFINITELY get the insurance. The car was kind of a cheap model and when we were leaving the lighthouse, we saw a big dent/scrape on the side. I was so happy we had the insurance so we could just return the car and walk away. My aunt and uncle had a horrific time with one of the rental car companies when they rented abroad and used their credit card program and waived the rental car insurance.

Re: would you recommend renting a car in aruba?

absoluetly and make sure you get a hard top jeep, it is so hot you will die with the soft top. you need a/c and make sure you get a jeep b/c most areas the road is rough and rocky a car would never make it especially if you explore the mountain, cant remember the name, its amazing and scary at the same time! and dont go late near sundown incase you get a flat- you dont want to be stuck out there at night!
