Would you say something?

If so, what.

Here's the story - DD goes to a daycare center. Last night I went to wash her bottles that they sent home. The first one was fine. When I openned the second one it smelled of bleach. Really strong too.

I'm sure they didn't try to poison DD. They have a spray bottle with a water and bleach mixture next to the sink. Maybe they accidentally spilled it with bottles in the sink? or were refilling it and had some overflow. I don't know.

Would you throw out the bottle or just run it through the dishwasher?

I just feel like they should have told me the bottle was in bleach. Maybe i'm making something of nothing.

Re: Would you say something?

Definitely say something. Talk to her teacher and explain that you are concerned because you didn't know there was bleach in the bottle, and you may have given it to DD without knowing. If not just for yourself, but for the other parents as well.

Ask them to please refrain from putting bleach in the bottles and leave it to you to wash them, or, in the alternative, to put a piece of tape with "bleach" written on it, if it does have bleach in it.

Re: Would you say something?

I would definitly mention something to the daycare. And throw out the bottle. Bleach is a very strong harsh chemical and I don't think running it through the dishwasher will take all of the bleach off!!!!!

I agree...and throw out that bottle! Say something to the teacher and the day care's director. Could be some accident, could be something more...either way, it could've hurt your child...what if you hadn't smelled it and used the bottle assuming it was safe and clean? Chat Icon

I completely agree. And I think I'd probably throw the bottle away. It may be fine after going through the DW, but I'm paranoid so I'd probably just dump it.

ok I called. They said they had their well water chlorinated Monday evening so it seems that the morning water still had some chlorine in it.

I'm still tossing it. It would have been nice of them to tell us!!!Chat Icon

Yeah, they definitely should have mentioned that. I wonder how many other parents called.

she's on RTF so thankfully they didn't feed her the water. Only rinsed the bottle with it. The fact that the bottle still smelled of chlorine after I washed it concerned me. I'm still going to toss it.

They said they have been giving all the babies/children bottled water.
