Would you switch doctors?

I really like certain aspects of my group pediatrians office. I especially like 3 out of 4 of the doctors, You can always get an appointment, they are open on weekends for sick visits, they call back quickly when you call on the emergency line and in general I really trust 3/4 of their opinions.

BUT>> My problem with them is for some reason I can never get in and out quickly. Every appointment takes over an hour. Either we are waiting in the waiting room for a while or waiting in the examing room for a while. Today we had a 9am ear recheck. I thught surely with that it will be quick. Nope - I got there at 8:45 and didnt leave till almost 10. I am losing my patience with that!

I know of a single doctor office near my house that I met while pregnant and I really liked but I thought going with a group would be better. Now that Sydney is getting older and doesnt need to go that often I am thinking of switching to him.

Opinions would be appreciated! Thanks

Honestly - I don't know of a doctor where you don't wait. If your basically happy with the service, I would stay.

I have to wait sometimes to see my DD's pediatrician - I wouldn't take her to anyone else.

Do you have to switch doctors as in declare you are switching or can you try the single practioner & if you like him stick with him?

If it were me, I would probably stay with the group practice. My children get sick on too many holidays to chance having my pediatrician not be available - or worse having to stressfully traipse over the island with sick child to another doctor.

Re: Would you switch doctors?

I'd stick with your current practice. You never know the other Dr. might be the same or worse. I haven' heard of too many offices where you don't wait a while, well except for wonderful Dr. Cavanagh's office.Chat Icon

Dr. Lisa Cavanagh? We use to use her and LOVE her. When we moved, the offices were too far from us but she was absolutely wonderful.

I never wait at my pedi office. There is never more than one other person there, the Dr himself calls me back and he has 2 late nights and is open on Saturday. If I call him after hours, he calls me right back. He's excellent.
Dr Frank Roberto in New Hyde park.

I think we are going to see what happens at our next visit in 3 months and see how that one goes.
Thanks for the opinions.

Re: Would you switch doctors?

We never have to wait at the ped. office. We are in and out. Sometimes we are a little too rushed though! I go to Smithtown Pediatrics in Smithtown.
