Would you take a 17 month old and 32 month old to a wake?

My 2nd cousin unfortunatly is going to be passing this week (they are taking him off the ventilator tomorrow) and if they have a day viewing I am going to go to that since I'm in NJ and the wake will be on LI. DH will not be able to go with me and my options are to take them with me or try and find someone to watch them.

So what do you think? If the answer is yes, what do they wear?

I would try to get a sitter but take them if needed. You can always leave early if needed. I would just put something nice on them.

Sorry for your loss.

IMO, I would not take them to the wake. I would find a sitter.

As others have said, if possible, I'd find a sitter. It would be easier on all of you, and you'd be able to spend some more quality time with your family members at the wake. But of course if you really want your kids there, then of course take them.

I think a sitter might be the way to go. I don't mind them coming (although I was a wreck when my cousins mom died, my dad's aunt) but I am nervous that Luka will be a handful and I don't want to disrespect my dad's family by causing a scene.

I think it depends on the situation. If it is easy enough to get a sitter than go ahead and get one. If you cannot then can someone help you at the wake? Maybe they can stand in the hall with the kids? In my family if we are desperate we always just take them with us. I come from a big family who is used to always having kids around.

I am so sorry for your loss Chat Icon Chat Icon
Will there be other children there? If so, I would bring them. Luka should wear khakis and a button down (or the like). Danijela should wear a little dress. I have taken Jeremy to too many wakes (and shiva calls) Chat Icon .
Also, won't your parents be there also? I am sure they would appreciate seeing them Chat Icon
