Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
My grandmother has been admitted to a nursing home (she's 93) and may stay there ... she has not yet met Ann (totally my fault) and want her to (before it's too late ).
Would you take an 11 week old into a nursing home? I'm not a worry wart and normally would not think twice but I'm just wondering if I should.

I probably would, in this case, since it's your grandmother and you want her to meet your baby.
I'm on the paranoid side with germs with babies that little usually, but in this case I'd overlook it.
Does your grandmother have her own room? That could help cut down on the germs (as long as Grandma doesn't have a cold at the time, KWIM?).

Good point - didn't think of it and I'll find out. Thanks!

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I took DD weekly since she was 2 months old to see my grandmother, her nana, until my grandmother passed in March.
Seeing her great grandaughter was the highlight of my grandmother's week. She so looked forward to seeing her.
Absolutely do it. It will mean so much to your grandmother. Just be vigilant about who touches her and what goes in her mouth.

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I have been taking my DD to see my grandmother in the nursing home since she is 6wks old. We started at first just having her outside as much as possible. But if you take your baby to the mall, there are the same amount of germs there. That's the way I looked at it. And it makes my grandmother so happy to see her!!

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
My grandmother lives in a nursing home & yes, I have taken DS to visit. I waited until he was about 8 weeks & then took him. If I didn't take him, he would never meet my grandmother & it's important to all of us that he does.

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
My MIL was in a nursing home/rehab when DS was born because of a broken ankle.
We brought him there but made her come down to the lobby and kept him pretty covered up and he was only 2 weeks old...he was fine. I just made sure no one came by him.

I definitely would. I agree with a PP though--maybe you could take her outside to meet and spend time with Ann?

I would (and have). It really cheers up the person you are visiting and can really help in their rehabilitation

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
Yes. Just be aware of your surroundings and the areas you are in. We took my son to one at just two days old - we had my mom bring her to the lobby and only popped in for a minute but, it was worth it. He was also there several times the first 11 months of his life. Then she passed away. I probably wouldn't have taken him so early except that she could have passed at any day and I wanted her to see him.

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I absolutely would and have - go for it! You will feel so much better knowing that your grandma met your daughter and it will be a great memory if you take a picture of them together.
life is too short to worry about the small stuff. At that age - your daughter is still too small to crawl around or touch anything - she might just stay in her carseat or stroller or in your arms.
I visit my grandma often at the home with my 2 year old and 3.5 year old and they touch everything including the floor etc.... - i have to say they've been healthy throughout this whole summer and we visit her every week. I think there is a greater risk when she get older and crawling - but not now. Regardless - go for it ! P.S. Youll also bring smiles to alot of the other elders in there with your beautiful daughter. The elders are in love with my kids!

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I did....DD was 2 months old when I took her to meet my grandmother. They are not sick, just old. And those places are pretty clean too.
I had no problems. Plus it brightens their day to see a baby.

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I would. Usually if they have a flu or stomach bug, they quarantine that specific unit and you are warned when you walk in the door.
In general, there is no more sickness than anywhere else.
At least in the nursing home I work at

Re: Would you take a baby to a nursing home?
I did. My grandfather was in and out of nursing homes and hospitals when DD was 1-4 mos. old. I took DD to see him at the nursing home a few times. I always asked the nurses if it was ok to bring her in and there was one time that they recommended that she not come (she stayed in the car with DH) because of a stomach bug.
I will say that not only did my grandfather enjoy seeing her, but so did the others. It was really sweet to see their reactions to her.
