Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
I have always been against using connections, which is silly, I know. Lately I have been VERY VERY unhappy at work and my dad mentioned to me that there could be something of interest for me where he works. I'm considering it. What do you think?
I don't mean regular, unrelated connections...I just mean Mom/Dad--family.

Re: Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
I would be worried that we would have conflicts working together, or that co-workers would be resentful of hiring family. Unless it is a huge company where no one would know, and where you wouldn't be working directly with him.
I would take a job they helped me to get, but not working with or for them. Moot point though because all three of us work for the state!

Re: Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
Just subbing in the local school districts and seeing the SAME last names across several schools and several positions, I say YEAH why not ?
It's been done before, and it's a part of life. sometimes we say "it's who you know" when we're NOt the one getting the jobs, but when we ARE the ones getting the jobs, we go for it anyway.
If I were you, I would definitely take the opportunity. Im sure you will show that YOU are worth that title and will work for every ounce of respect you earn.
I hope that didnt come across as offensive in any way!

From your previous posts, you have expressed how great a relationship that you have with your dad. I don't see a problem. Plus, if you are that unhappy with your current job, I always say change is good.

i would go for it - just a question - would you be working directly with your dad, in the same department or separately?

Re: Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
Thanks, guys. Well, yeah, we have different last names but everyone would know I'm "Vin's daughter." lol.
He actually works from home, so it would not be the same office. Today's his bday and we're going there for dinner; he told me about a job he thinks I might like. I'm so confused with work. I'm just not happy doing what I'm doing anymore. Last night I told DH I want to get certified and teach yoga! I'm all over the place.......I had an incident at work on Friday and I had to hold myself back from going: "You know what? I quit!"

I would. You will have to prove yourself more than someone else, but if you are confident you can do the job, I would go for it.

I would follow your heart to happiness, however the road leads you there. I know you are unhappy now so why not? Good luck, Lana!

Re: Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
The company I am in now, and a previous one I worked at, MANY people have familiy members working at the same place. They obviously don't work side by side, but they are in the same building/floor. Husbands and wives, parents and kids, in laws, brothers and sisters, you name it.

Re: Would you take a job that your mom/dad got you?
My dad works in a college that I'd love to get a job at. If he told me there was an opening and could get me in, I'd take that in a heartbeat!

If it gives you a chance to get a better job than you have now, I would definitely at least strongly consider it.
