Would you use a name if your family asked you not to?
I have a girls name that I adore....my grandmas' sister had the same name. Apparently she was an alcoholic and unhappy in her marriage and passed away from cancer.
My family asked me not to use the name.....

I wouldn't.
It would just be years of reminding me that they didn't want me to use that name.
Not worth the headache, IMO.

For those reasons, I wouldn't. If they just didn't like the name, I wouldn't care. But since they are basing it on something like that, I would just find a different name.

If those were the reasons, I'd respect their wishes.
There was a name Tom mentioned when we were brainstorming and I said no because it was my uncle's name and he wasn't a nice person....
There are lots of great names out there - not to worry!!

I'd respect their wishes. I wouldnt be happy about it - but I'd go along with it.
I'd have more of problem if my family were telling me to use a particular name - but to ask you not to consider a name due to a relative's life and personality is different.

I announced that I love a boy's name...and my mother said absolutely not. She had a serious ex with the same name that she was suppose to marry. Instead she ran off with my father.
As much as I loved the name, I chose not to use it. She doesn't ask for much and I did not want her to feel weird.

Given the circumstances I probablyt wouldn't use the name. But if they just didn't like it, then I would say too bad.
